Essential Functions
Function: Works to support student development in the Honors College, which can include Honors curriculum advising, intellectual discovery across Honors College programs, student engagement, and career coaching tailored to an honors student population.
Scope: Advise, guide and mentor Honors College students.
Typical:
- Participate in new student orientation with Honors Academic Counseling Team.
- Assist with new student onboarding.
- Advise, guide and mentor Honors College students in Honors curriculum completion.
- Assist students in preparation of application materials for experiential learning, including internships, service learning, study abroad, and undergraduate research.
- Assist in organizing and executing events related to student development.
- Conduct audits and other report processes for Honors students with assistance from Honors Academic Counseling Team.
- Track relevant retention, satisfactory progress, and graduation data regarding Honors students.
- Maintain and record regular communication with Honors students.
- Participate in campus, community service and extracurricular events for Honors, virtually and/or in person as appropriate, which may include evening and weekend events
- Assist in designing and delivering programming to encourage student participation in areas of Honors education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Periodic:
- Interview students for Honors programs.
- Serve on Honors committees and represent Honors in university committees.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience working with college students in an advising, program coordination or program management capacity.
- Strong and engaging public speaking skills.
- Ability to advise using high-impact educational practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on major tasks.
- Outstanding written communication skills.
- Proficiency in personal computers and related office equipment.
- Criminal Background Check (CBC).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in an academic discipline.
- Experience with the administration of one or more of the following areas: undergraduate admissions, study abroad, internship placement, student event planning and execution, college peer-to-peer development programs, undergraduate research, service learning or similar student development areas.
- Experience working with special student populations, including high achieving students, in a collegiate setting.
- Experience with Honors education at the collegiate level.
- Experience educating/teaching students in high school or higher education.
- Experience with Banner or similar academic data management systems.
- Experience with honors programs, colleges or students.
- Familiarity with student advising software and systems.
Working Conditions
- Normal office environment.
- Occasional work at special events. May include organizing, conducting, participating or socializing at events outside of the office or off campus.
- Occasional nights and weekends.
- Required in person work. Occasional remote work is negotiable, depending on performance and work responsibilities.
