We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
  • Two or more years of experience in accounting and finance
  • Experience working with grant budgets and accounting
  • Experience working in governmental accounting and budgeting
  • Experience working with Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word
  • Experience working with Advantage System, InfoAdvantage, and other financial systems
Job Contributions
  • Perform a variety of accounting assignments, including the annual setup and maintenance of accounting records, the classification of revenue and expenditure transactions, journalizing accounting transactions, and preparing closing period adjustments
  • Review and audit various accounting and financial documents, ensuring accuracy and correcting entries
  • Examine supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with contracts, other agreements, policies, and appropriate regulations
  • Compile and prepare journal entries and periodic reconciliations of general ledger, journal, and subsidiary accounts
  • Compile and prepare financial reports and supporting schedules, and documentation
  • Maintain financial records for various funding sources, including grants, and prepare reports for such funding agencies
  • Review invoices and ensure proper documentation, and balances against requisitions, purchase orders, and contracts
  • Confer with operating staff, vendors, contractors, and others regarding invoices and payment status
  • Make complex or difficult adjusting entries affecting several subsystems of a departmental accounting system
Working Conditions
  • This position primarily works in an office setting with a telework option
  • May be subject to working non-standard hours or days based on need
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions related to death and disease
  • Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
