Position Summary
The Accountant position is essential to the overall IGHID financial operations which garner ~$76M in grant funding. This position’s portfolio includes various country sites (Malawi and Vietnam), with complex reporting and monitoring requirements.

This position will work closely with IGHID’s international financial teams in Vietnam and Malawi. Duties include all post-award issues, reconciliation of expenditures, interpreting allowable expenses, monitoring and approving account transaction, and reporting. Additional requirements include: ability to monitor account balances, provide routine monthly status reports, and when necessary, provide immediate reports to upper management if problems are identified; determine compliance with pertinent guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws; establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of related on-campus unties, departmental staff, and the general public; communicate effectively in both oral and written form. The position will assist in the continuous development IGHID (Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases) international accounting procedures on how to process cash advances, reconcile them and how to carefully review receipts to ensure that the charges are allowable, allocable and reasonable. This position will look at the international procedures and advise on ways to be more efficient. This position will also learn UNC Project Malawi’s new financial system, NetSuite.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and customer service experience. Candidate must possess an excellent attention to detail, have strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Experience in accounting, reconciliation and advanced accounting knowledge. Experience with international and domestic grant funding.

Strong computer skills (including all Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel), familiarity with Adobe PDF documents.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prefer a candidate possess experience with UNC financial systems including InfoPorte, Connect Carolina and RAMSeS.

Substantial experience with International accounting is preferred.
