Polk County Public Schools is looking for a dependable, people-oriented, and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk Specialist to join the Risk Management and Employee Benefits team. This position performs advanced and specialized work in the maintenance of accounting records and reports and will have a specific focus on processing Leave of Absence (LOA) files.
You'll be a great fit for this position if you:
- have top-notch customer service skills, including professional telephone etiquette, filing, email, and computer skills,
- have considerable knowledge of policies and procedures affecting management of federally-funded programs,
- have considerable experience of employee benefits administration,
- have considerable knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles and practices,
- know your way around school system accounting practices and procedures,
- are skilled at operating computers and other standard office machines,
- consider yourself a "math person" and can perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy,
- have the ability to work with numerical data and maintain attention to detail,
- pride yourself on your verbal and written communication skills, those of which could be used to communicate effectively with governmental agencies, school personnel, and vendors, and
- have the ability to maintain accounting files, records, and reports.
Here's the work you'll contribute to the team:
- Provide customer service to employees seeking information about various types of leave, answering questions concerned deductions from pay related to absences, return-to-work dates and eligibility.
- Maintain intake spreadsheet for leaves of absence, including tracking of in progress applications and missing doctor’s portion applications.
- Set up and maintain all leave files, send leave of absence forms, monitor and respond to leave of absence email inbox.
- Send 15 and 30 day reminder notices for leave of absence.
- Perform monthly check of hours taken for employees on intermittent Family and Medical Leave.
- Assist with processing leave of absence invoicing or exchange of data with direct billing contacts.
- Assist with employee benefits enrollment and activities during open enrollment.
- Assist with various special projects related to assigned functions.
- Provide exceptional customer service functions to internal and external clients, vendors and with all levels of staff.
- Assume responsibilities of Sr. Technician when needed.
Ideal applicants meet the following education and experience requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Considerable responsible experience as a bookkeeper or an accounting clerk or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- 3-5 years of experience in an office environment

Pay: From $35,568.00 per year
