The Activities Director plans, schedules, and implements individual and group activities designed to meet the social, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual needs of our residents, such as events, games, and exercises. He/she oversees all activities to ensure residents participate safely and supervises, supports, and trains any volunteers and facilitates family and employee events within the community. In addition, the Activities Director may arrange for the outside community to visit the residents, such as churches, school groups, performance groups, etc.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (college degree preferred); at least one year of experience working with older adults and end of life issues; and experience in planning social and recreational programs, preferably within an assisted living or long term care facility. Activities Director Certified is welcomed, but not required. Candidates must have fluent English speaking and writing skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Maintains standard precautions
  • Follows emergency and safety procedures
  • Decorates community for holidays and special events
  • Facilitates Resident Council in various parts of the community as resident abilities require
  • Types meeting minutes as required
  • Ensures community pets as well as routinely visiting pets have appropriate health and licensing criteria
  • Coordinates or facilitates with resident volunteers or provide all new resident orientation ensuring that every new resident has the tools and support to adapt to Warrensburg Manor as a new home
  • Plans all community holiday events and monthly birthday parties for residents including decorations, food service, and entertainment
  • Maintains Warrensburg Manor Facebook Page
  • Contributes input and ideas for appropriate programs and resident engagement in all areas of the community
  • Prepares and distributes daily informational sheets for distribution to residents
  • Designs programming for the community to engage all residents in some aspects of a program
  • Builds a comprehensive calendar which addresses the physical, cognitive, social, and spiritual needs of all residents in the community, including yearly as well as monthly calendar events
  • Works with nursing team to escort residents to activities
  • Utilizes person centered skills to engage all residents
  • Evaluates effectiveness of program and revise as needed
  • Evaluates or assesses all resident needs and preferences for interests, hobbies, or passions
  • Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
  • Ensures there is a system to let all team members be aware of the activity plan
  • Works closely with nursing assistants and gives directions and tools to provide activity programming
  • Participates in sourcing, orienting, scheduling, supporting, or recognizing volunteers
  • Provides information for the Activity Department Budget and maintains and submits monthly receipts

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • Activities Director Certified preferred
  • National Activities Certification strongly encouraged
  • Current Food Handler's Card
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • One year of relevant experience
  • Excellent computer and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Neat, clean, and professional appearance
  • Positive attitude
  • Able to multitask
  • Able to work effectively with older adults
  • Experience in music, art, or recreation therapy preferred
  • Able to stand and sit occasionally
  • Able to walk, reach, and push/pull constantly
