We’re looking for an engaging and thoughtful senior-level specialist to serve as a liaison between the Department, Subrecipients, and our customers as a subject matter expert in ADA compliance. ADA Compliance Program Specialist I
Supports the implementation and administration of the Department’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Accessibility Compliance Program within the Department and for Subrecipients. An ADA Compliance Specialist I assists state and local public agencies in ensuring appropriate accessibility standards to all transportation facilities and projects in accordance with state and federal law. Work requires excellent record retention and reporting skills, the creation of official correspondence and educational materials, and support of ADA district liaisons as a subject matter resource. The ADA Compliance Specialist I has contact with the public, high-level executives, managers, and representatives from other governmental agencies. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet objectives, but will be supported by the Section Director and other section staff.
ADA Compliance Program Specialist II
Oversees implementation and administration of the Department’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Compliance Program within the Department and for Subrecipients. The work of an ADA Compliance Specialist II requires extensive knowledge to ensure appropriate accessibility standards to transportation facilities and projects in compliance with state and federal law. Work requires the creation and implementation of ADA compliance training, educational materials, and involves extensive contact with the public, high-level executives, managers, and other governmental agencies. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
ADA Compliance Program Specialist I
- Coordinates with districts and divisions on developing and implementing ADA-related policies, procedures, and materials.
- Maintains records, database systems and/or program files.
- Prepares correspondence, reports, studies and makes presentations regarding program/project activities; assists in
- researching and preparing appropriate response for technical assistance requests.
- Assists Operations team members in evaluating Operations Vendor’s performance with respect to contract requirements; and reports findings to those who manage the contract and determine performance metrics accountability.
- Supports the data collection requirements and preparation of reports for the effectiveness of program activities.
- Assists in developing educational and/or informational materials.
- Assists in the creation and/or management of the ADA Transition Plan including assisting with self-evaluations.
- Provides technical assistance and serves as subject matter expert (SME) for districts, divisions, consultants,
- Subrecipients, and the public in ADA-related matters.
- Performs a variety of technical, training, research, planning, policy, program assessment, and administrative activities
- for assigned program(s), including overseeing the delivery of services and creating efficiencies where applicable.
- Responds to inquiries and processes complaints filed under ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and writes investigative reports in accordance with Department guidelines.
- Researches and coordinates vendor contracts; prepares budgets related to the ADA Compliance Program.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
ADA Compliance Program Specialist II
- Develops, implements and oversees the training for ADA/Accessibility Compliance programs and organizes and facilitates workshops/seminars on issues and activities related to ADA compliance.
- Represents the department on matters concerning ADA-related activities and may provide testimony at internal review hearings regarding allegations of discrimination.
- Serves as program liaison for regulatory agencies, Subrecipients, community-based organizations, and the public.
- Coordinates reporting activities and disseminates information as requested and/or required.
- Makes recommendations about the agency’s policies based on research of local, state, and national trends, federal policy issues and proposed legislation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
ADA Compliance Program Specialist I: 2 years experience in Civil Rights, Employee/Labor Relations, ADA/Accessibility Compliance program work or closely related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
ADA Compliance Program Specialist II: 5 years experience in Civil Rights, Employee/Labor Relations, ADA/Accessibility Compliance program work or closely related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs

- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
