Department Purpose

Undergraduate Admissions (UA) provides leadership, planning, management, and implementation of undergraduate admissions, recruitment and outreach services. UA participates in development of campus enrollment goals and ensures that goals are met through implementation of UC and UC Davis Faculty policy for selective admissions, and through carrying out of internal and campus-wide enrollment management initiatives. UA also establishes initial undergraduate student profile data for the UC Davis records database and determines for each entering undergraduate their academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree.

Job Summary

Under direction of the Director for California & Diversity Recruitment, work independently in a regional office location, preferably in Los Angeles or Inland Empire region, and provide year-round project management of recruitment and yield initiatives in a multi-county region including, but not limited to, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties through high school and community college visits, school district wide and community-based college fairs and programs. The incumbent may also be assigned to support recruitment efforts in other parts of California and nationally. This includes some travel outside of California.

Strategically prioritizes visit requests from feeder schools with broad diversity to promote a highly qualified applicant pool representative of the state of California. Provide advising services to prospective freshman and transfer students and parents, which may include coordinating recruitment activities at on and off-site locations. Serve on advisory committees to actively promote UC Davis to the professional
community at high schools, community colleges and community-based organizations and inform of UC Davis attributes and admission standards. Oversee alumni volunteers in recruitment activities in the assigned region.

Support the department in similar student-centered outreach and yield efforts and/or other responsibilities as assigned by the Director. In collaboration with campus and department management, develop and implement a comprehensive student recruitment plan, maintain fiscal records, data collections, and statistical comparative analysis of the recruitment and yield activities and level of activity participation. Develop and sustain relationships with senior and middle
management, faculty and professional staff to develop and enhance on-site program services which enable students to successfully complete education plans and enroll at UC Davis.

Utilize highly confidential and complex academic, and sensitive personal student information, academic interests and career goals, and interpret and apply complex UC admission policies in advising and developing multi-year educational plans for students. Collaborate with UA and campus event coordinators and staff in developing motivational and informational conferences and activities. Evaluate Freshmen and Transfer applicants for admissibility; verify application accuracy; support campus enrollment targets through the development and implementation of yield activities in assigned regions and on-campus programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population on the college application and admission process, including recruitment and application review.
  • Experience working with university alumni, and student-centered and school-centered outreach programs in community based and faith-based organizations toward increasing educational achievement, specifically among students from diverse populations and language backgrounds in urban and rural communities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/education/training.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges / universities and specifically at UC, and/or specific colleges and schools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions Experience in fiscal program development and management to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives serving diverse communities especially the African American, Chicanx/Latinx, and Native American communities.
  • Political and cultural acumen, diplomacy and communication skills to interact with diverse campus and community constituents.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience evaluating high school and college transcripts for UC eligibility.
  • Experience in planning, preparing, and monitoring complex education budgets by integrating program goals, projects, plans, staffing needs and statistical data.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Ability to plan, manage, and implement recruitment and yield events, diversity initiative events, mentoring programs, electronic communications, and similar activities.
  • Knowledge of languages other than English, both written and oral.
