Stefanini Group is hiring for a Field Biologist Assistant!

Work Hours: 40 hours/ week, start 7am or 8am. may be asked to start early like 6am as needed.

What You'll Do:

• Role involves working in plastic high tunnels and field crops commonly grown in North Carolina.
• Duties include field evaluation of experimental compounds.
• Preparation and set up of experiments (including equipment, plants, and insects), evaluation of trials, and site maintenance.
• Work will be under the supervision of biologists and Farm Manager.

Additional responsibilities will include:

• weighing chemicals, mixing solutions, making dilutions, applying experimental pesticides of unknown toxicity, entering data into Excel accurately, and general housekeeping.

Duties such as:

• hoeing, pruning, weeding, and harvesting would be required on a daily to weekly basis. Likewise, maintenance of facilities, equipment, and tools to ensure operational readiness, and cleanliness is required.
• As well as conducting insect and plant disease/damage surveys.
• Candidate will adhere to SOPs and safety protocols provided by staff.
• The ability to operate farm machinery (tractors and mowers) would be a plus.
• Occasional weekend work may be required.

IDEAL Candidate Must Have:

• Must be able to work with balances, meters, pumps, stir plates, funnels, pipets, burets, heating plates, fume hoods and other standard laboratory equipment
• Must be able to use pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, calculators, grinding wheel and other standard mechanical tools
• Must be able to execute various glassware cleaning procedures used by the laboratory
• Must be able to work with environmental samples such as soils, plant tissue, animal tissues, water and sediment. Once trained, must be able to culture test species and aid in testing
• Must be able to work with test compounds (including radiolabeled materials), reference toxicants, solvents, detergents, acids, bases, resins, silicones and activated carbon
• Must be able to perform calculations for dosing procedures
• Become familiar with process of identifying and solving problems with physical test systems
• Must be able to keep detailed, organized records and complete required documentation for the associated tests, in real time.
• Will be introduced and must become familiar with use of spreadsheets and statistical software
• Must understand and execute appropriate disposal of liquid and solid wastes.
• Additional duties as assigned

Salary: $22.00 per hour
