Job Summary
Under the supervision of Swim Center Manager and Assistant Swim Center Manager, position ensures patron safety, enforces pool rules and regulations, performs water rescues, and administer first aid, as needed. Implement the Emergency Action Plan and notify proper authorities as required. Assist in general maintenance and cleaning of pool"s deck and equipment. Act as manager on duty when managers are not working. The position requires working 40 hours a week, including weekends as scheduled. This position will need to lead in-services for lifeguards 6 times a year, assist with training front desk/concession employees and perform daily maintenance tasks (cleaning, chemical testing etc.), as assigned.

100.00% - MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow and enforce facility rules and regulations at all times.

Respond quickly to emergency situations to guarantee the safety of pool patrons. Perform appropriate emergency and rescue techniques when necessary, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid in an effective manner to ensure proper crisis management.

Apply consistent disciplinary action for all violations in a firm, yet courteous manner.
Respond to requests, inquiries, and complaints in a cooperative manner that ensures customer satisfaction. Assist staff in addressing issues with patrons; provide excellent community relations.
Notify Swim Center Manager or Assistant Manager of patron or staff misconduct.
Observe swimmers from guard stand or pool side; caution swimmers of rule violations and enforce safety rules. While on duty observing swimmers, remain vigilant; perform no other function such as talking on a cell phone or texting.
Responsible for performing weather checks, closing pool due to inclement weather, and advising the Swim Center Manager or Assistant Manager.
Perform duties of opening and closing the pool facilities. Ensure all patrons and staff safely leave the facility.
Retain by memory details of the Emergency Action Plan and implement it during emergency situations.
Assist in implementing lifeguard in-service training sessions; offer feedback and guidance to staff; address minor disciplinary issues.
Encourage staff to use sunscreen and drink plenty of fluids.
Act as a role model for staff regarding proper dress, professional behavior, and appropriate customer relations.
Report any staff on-the-job injury or patron injury to the Swim Center Manager and Human Resources.
Communicate any staff issues and needs to Swim Center Manager or Assistant Manager.
Exercise proper, calm judgment when dealing with situations that require immediate action.
Exercise consistency in following and implementing Swim Center and City policies.
Must possess the ability to handle front desk and concession operations, including deposits, refunds, facility rentals, and admissions.
The position requires working 40 hours a week, including weekends as scheduled. This position will need to lead in-services for lifeguards 6 times a year, assist with training during front desk/concession employees and perform daily maintenance tasks (cleaning, chemical testing etc.) as assigned.
Immediately notify the Swim Center Manager or Assistant Manager of any needed materials, equipment repairs, and any unsafe conditions.
Ensure proper use, care, storage, and maintenance of facility equipment by patrons and lifeguard staff.
Make sure restroom maintenance logs and chemical logs are completed hourly/daily as, required.
Maintain cleanliness of the entire facility, including back storage areas and office.
Promote a safe environment by performing regular deck checks: roving the deck, picking up trash and Lost-n-Found items, checking on staff and patrons throughout the day.

Meet multiple deadlines and perform multiple tasks under pressure. Work in a multi-task environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Must be able to work long hours in extreme temperatures long hours including weekends, holidays and some after hours. Subject to sunburn, and other sun exposure reactions.
Must be able to sit in an alert manner and observe the activities of all patrons of the pool while on stand or in a roving position.
May be exposed to potential injury from patrons in water emergencies.
May require exposure to human body fluids.
Must wear a uniform while on duty, must provide own whistle, sunscreen and sunglasses.
May be exposed to dust, cleaning agents, materials and equipment.
Work requires exposure to pool chemicals and pool equipment.
May encounter occasional stressful situations.
Must be physically fit enough to perform rescues and other physical requirements of lifeguarding.
Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time while on duty as a lifeguard or working on maintenance projects.
Must be able to set up and take down equipment for various activities.
Must be able to carry, hold, lift and push pool chemicals and pool equipment up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to use step stools and ladders to climb into a storage loft to store and retrieve items weighing up to 30 pounds.
Must be able to file records and store supplies weighing up to 30 pounds in both low (3 feet) and high (7 feet) standing cabinets and shelves.
Must possess mental acuity for attention to detail and accuracy.
Must see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Must hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1-2 years of working at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard or in a supervisory role.
1-2 years of experience working as a swim instructor and have knowledge of swim teaching curriculum.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
Maintain valid Texas Driver"s License with satisfactory driving record, as defined by City policy.
Valid Starguard Lifeguard with CPR/First Aid/AED certification or able to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Age must comply with City"s personnel guidelines (minimum age for this position is 18).
High school diploma or GED required.
Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
StarGuard Instructor license or able to obtain within 120 days of hire.
CPO certification or able to obtain within 120 days of hire.
Job Advertisement
Hiring range: $17.04 ($35,449) - $21.31 ($44,311), depending on experience and qualifications. Full salary range goes up to $53,173.

Retirement
The City is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employees contribute 7% of their gross wages on a pre-tax basis to TMRS. The City matches 2:1. You are vested after five years of employment. Vested employees will receive their own and the City"s matching contributions, plus interest upon retirement via monthly payment options. You are eligible to retire once vested and age 60 or 20 years of service at any age. While working you also have a supplemental death benefit equal to 1 times your yearly salary.
Holiday
The City recognizes 13 Holidays per calendar year. New Year"s Day, MLK Day, President"s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran"s Day, Thanksgiving and the Day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Effective immediately.

Sick Time
8 hours per month with a maximum of 480 hours. May be taken at the first of the month following one month of employment.
Vacation
8 hours per month for the first five years. Accrual rate increases after 5 years and 10 years. May be taken at the first of the month following one month of employment.
Personal Time
16 hours per calendar year. May be taken at the first of the month following one month of employment.

Long Term Disability
The City pays for long term disability which covers 50% of monthly pre-disability pay. The maximum monthly benefit is $5,000.

Life Insurance and AD&D
$10,000 guarantee issue provided by the City. Supplemental life insurance and dependent life insurance is available.
Longevity Pay
All full-time employees will receive $48 of longevity pay per year after the first year of employment with the City, with an increase of $48 per year thereafter.

The EAP is designed to provide employees and their dependents with professional, cost-effective assistance in resolving difficult personal problems. Individual, voluntary involvement in the EAP is confidential.

Deferred Compensation
Employees may voluntarily contribute to this optional program at a minimum set by the plan administrator ($10 per check) or a maximum set annually by the IRS. Currently the City contracts with ICMA-RC.

Pay Cycle
For pay purposes the work week begins at 12:01 am on Sunday and ends at midnight on Saturday. Employees are paid bi-weekly on Friday. If payday falls on a holiday, payday will be on the day preceding the holiday.
