The County of Riverside's Office of County Counsel has opportunities for two Assistant County Counsels to join their team in Downtown Riverside. The Office is looking for experienced litigators with great leadership skills.
Please note that "Assistant County Counsel" is a working title and the positions will be filled as the "Chief Assistant County Counsel" classification.
The Assistant County Counsels serve as the number two in the office and report to the County Counsel. They assist the County Counsel in the day-to-day management and operation of the office through directing. managing and coordinating the activities of the Office. Additionally, incumbents perform complex legal work having significant legal or policy implications on the County and Special Districts.
The Assistant County Counsels will work closely with other County Departments and act as an advisor to various County boards, committees, commissions, and departments. Additionally, they will provide guidance, serve as mentor, and evaluate the work of subordinate deputies. Experience in people management is critical in this role as the candidate selected will motivate and maintain morale of the team, while also being able to apply performance management when needed. Having the political savvy, leadership skills, and relationship building experience is critical.

This class has been designated At-Will by the Board of Supervisors, in accordance with the provisions provided under Article 6, Section 601E (2) of the County Management Resolution and serves at the pleasure of the County Counsel.

The Office of County Counsel is a full-service law office that provides advisory and litigation support on issues of vital concern to the County and its residents such as health care, public safety (sheriff, jail, fire, ambulance), child welfare, land development, code enforcement, environmental protection, public finance, taxation, and elections.

The ideal candidate will be:
- A strong manager or supervisor (5 years minimum) who supports professional development and the refinement of skills and talents.
- An experienced litigator (7 years minimum) with thorough understanding of local government laws and regulations.
- A leader, who is solution driven and forward thinking with ability to address organizational challenges; and has the patience and perseverance to foster a vision and direction for the Office.
- A collaborator who is politically astute and able to successfully interacts professionally and effectively with staff, elected officials, and the public.
- A civil servant who remains visible, approachable at all time and demonstrates high ethical standards in holding self and others accountable.
