Overview:
Coordinates the Trauma Program in collaboration with the Medical Director for Trauma Services. Supervises the data entry process into the Trauma Registry and abstraction of data to accomplish performance improvement activities. Coordinates education for trauma and injury prevention for clinical staff, physicians, community and outreach sites. Serves as liaison to state program.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates the Trauma Program.
?Serves as liaison and hospital representative to state trauma program.
?Keeps current with changes in Trauma Center criteria.
?Plans and coordinates Trauma Center re-designation process.
?Coordinates follow-up activities as required for continued Trauma Center designation.
?Maintains and revises Trauma manuals, educating appropriate disciplines of changes/areas for improvement.
?Participates in the development, implementation, monitoring and revision of trauma standards, policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care.
?Develops/maintains Trauma Transfer Resource Manual for catchment area.
?Participates in developing and operationalizing market plan and activities.
?Assures program meets professional, regulatory and department standards

Oversees the Trauma Registry
?Assures Trauma Registry is maintained per state guidelines
?Develops and maintains system to ensure data entry is accurate and competed within six weeks of event.
?Organizes and presents trauma data to Trauma Physicians Panel, including QI and program performance monitoring.

Assures effective performance improvement activities.
?Develops/maintains/evaluates the service PI program in conjunction with the Medical Director
?Assures staff PI education and participation
?Develops/maintains system for communicating PI outcomes and customer satisfaction results to staff.

Participates in patient care.
?Functions as an expert practitioner who provides for the clinical needs of trauma patients, both directly and indirectly, throughout the hospital stay.
?Acts as a consultant, providing expertise in trauma care to nurses, pre-hospital providers and other health care professionals.
?Develops nursing standards of care for trauma patients in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.
?Facilitates feedback to referral hospitals regarding patient transferred to Cone Health.
?Coaches Emergency Department staff during select trauma episodes.
?Participates in improving trauma quality, costs, and LOS.
?Participates in trauma research activities, integrating research findings into clinical practice.

?Coordinates quarterly Multidisciplinary Trauma Conferences
?Provides trauma orientation and inservice on trauma care for new ED staff.
?Facilitates/records trauma education (CME) for trauma surgeons and Emergency Department physicians.
?Facilitates trauma education for catchment area nurses.
?Coordinates/facilitates Injury Prevention and community education programs.
?Provides CATN, TNCC, and ENPC courses (or other combination based on needs assessment each year)
?Provides/facilitates Trauma Education Program(s) for MDs, nurses, and pre-hospital personnel.

?Evaluates and determines human resource needs for program development, maintenance or revision.
?Assures the following human resource functions meet organizational guidelines.

EXPERIENCE:
4 Years, Healthcare - Emergency Services/Trauma, RN Clinical Practice in emergency nursing required

ACLS | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
