STARBASE Nellis Full-Time Assistant Instructor and Bus-Driver

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) is the future!

Department of Defense (DoD) STARBASE is a premier educational program, sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Reserve Affairs. The focus is on at-risk populations and those who are underrepresented in STEM careers. The goal is to have these students participate in challenging “hands-on, minds-on” activities in a fun and engaging way.

STARBASE Nellis is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated staff to help transport Clark County School District classes to STARBASE Nellis and function as a support staff in the time between driving the route.

General Responsibilities:

• Assistant Instructor
• Team-teaching classroom instruction.
• Maintain classroom preparations for lessons with break down and set up of materials.
• Maintain the curriculum storage area in an organized manner and assist with supply and material inventories.
• Driver for CCSD specifically for STARBASE Nellis:
• CCSD training for CDL to drive a school bus or training if you already have a CDL
• Transport 5thgrade classes to Nellis AFB, STARBASE program in the morning and return them to their school in the afternoon.
• Transport class to field trip on base.

Requirements

• Pass the security and background checks for working on a DoD facility
• 21 yrs of age or older
• High School Diploma
• Ability to work with children
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Driver’s License with CDL
• Drive a full size school bus
• If previous employment with CCSD transportation, must have left on positive terms.
• Must be accepted by CCSD transportation and HR as a bus driver prior to starting as STARBASE Nellis employee.

Preferred

• 3 years’ experience with elementary age students
• The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education, Associate Degree, or CDA (Child Development Associate Credential).
• Interest in math or science education

Work schedule

• Year round
• Federal Holidays off with school year break days off as scheduled
• Monday – Fridays
• Bus Driver when CCSD schools are schedule to come to STARBASE Nellis

Hours:

• 7:30-3:30 8 hours when work does not require driving for CCSD classes to STARBASE Nellis
• hours adjusted while driving for CCSD classes (pay is paid by CCSD, hourly for time driving bus 22.75/hr)

Pay

• STARBASE Assistant Instructor salary $35,000.00
• CCSD driver rate: approximately 22.75/hr per hour. (additional pay from CCSD)
