Other Conditions: On federal funds, 50% FTE, annually renewable depending on performance and/or funding, to begin approximately May 2023, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach up to 25 first year medical students a year performing AHEC sponsored Community Health coursework.- Teach up to 20 AHEC sponsored Community Health Worker or Social Work students.
- Serve as liaison the HawaiiUTelehealth.org telehealth program, staff and students.
- Maintain Correspondence with HawaiiUTelehealth.org providers.
- Recruit new HawaiiUTelehealth.org providers, users, and patients as needed.
- Recruit new preceptors for medical students.
- Create and disseminate promotional materials on HawaiiUTelehealth.org.
- Oversee the HawaiiUTelehealth.org request for proposals and onboarding process for providers.
- Review monthly statistics and invoices for accuracy.
- Collect telehealth utilization data output and outcome data.
- Prepare regular progress reports for different grant agencies.
- Promote HawaiiUTelehealth.org program throughout rural Hawaii.
- Write grants for additional funding, including reaching US Pacific jurisdictions.
- Create collaborations for program expansion.
- Organize and provide computer/telehealth trainings of providers, staff and patients across Hawaii and Pacific.
- Provide primary care to patients as needed via telehealth and with our partners (i.e.HOME clinic) set up collaborative telehealth opportunities.
- Serve as liaison between AHEC and community health programs as well as other community programs to recruit more educational opportunities for students.
- Teach interprofessional student and resident rural rotations for up to 50 students a year to include the Rural Health Training Initiative, and other student or resident rural and underserved clinical experiences.
- Facilitate weekly clinical case reports and community project reports for interprofessional student and resident experiences.
- Teach up to 60 health professions students in the AHEC Scholars program in interprofessional clinical and didactic experiences.
- Publish findings of research studies including those related to AHEC activities.
- Conduct medical student training, research, and recruitment at AHEC as opportunities arise and participate in publishing articles related to AHEC research and programming.
- Present findings at local, national, and international conferences.
- Write grants to further support AHEC operations including, but not limited to those listed above.
- Assist with leadership of other AHEC grant funded programs not already listed above.
- Mentor and recruit physicians for Hawaii State Loan Repayment recipients.
- Serve on JABSOM and/or University committees.
- Conduct scholarly work in medical education, recruitment and retention which may include research or curriculum descriptions and the scholarly work should be published and/or presented at peer-reviewed forums.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.D. or D.O. degree from a medical school of recognized standing.
- Evidence of effective teaching.
- Experience using teaching methods such as problem-based learning, team-based learning, project-based learning, or another method that emphasizes active, self-directed learning.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated potential for research/scholarship/grant writing.
- Familiarity working with and mentoring students.
- Ability to travel independently in a timely and efficient manner to various locations within the State of Hawaii and out-of-state.
Desirable Qualification:
- Two (2) years of experience in medical student education in the clinical and/or classroom setting (may include resident teaching experience).
- Two (2) years of experience in telehealth delivery.
- Knowledge of Pacific cultures, languages and healthcare needs.
- Experience teaching in and/or coordinating a medical school clinical clerkship.
- Demonstrated ability to work and teach collaboratively with other faculty within and across disciplines.
- Comfortable working in a multi-cultural setting.
- Familiarity and experience teaching in a problem-based learning curriculum.
