ABOUT THE POSITION AND TEAM
Reporting to the college’s VP of Human Resources & Equity, the Associate Vice President of Human Resources (AVPHR) facilitates an inclusive and collaborative culture with a focus on client service, accountability for results, equity, inclusion, and belonging. In this role, you will provide leadership, planning, training and development, implementation, and operational direction for human resources functions college-wide. The AVPHR is a critical point of coordination between the Human Resources department and other college departments, serves on college’s Administrative Council, and provides coaching and subject matter expertise to support employee training, organizational development, and a culture of engagement for more than 600 employees. The AVPHR also implements operational strategy for the HR department, coaches its HR professionals, and oversees its day-to-day operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, organizational development, law, or a related field AND at least five (5) years in human resources management OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated experience successfully translating HR strategies into actionable plans and goals.
- Proficient knowledge and application of employment laws and regulations, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title IX, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Unemployment, and Worker’s Compensation.
- Exceptional client service and relationship management skills, with ability to communicate effectively and professionally, with sensitivity, discretion, and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred
- Supervision of the Human Resources function in an organization with at least two direct reports or related project management responsibilities.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR Certification
- Knowledge and application of theories and practices of management and leadership sufficient to successfully direct human and fiscal resources.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including leading discussions and presentations with varied audiences.
- Experience in a non-profit, government, or higher education setting.
- Experience in a union environment, including proficient interpretation of multiple collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws.
- Demonstrable experience aligning position descriptions, work behaviors, and KSA’s, preferably using a complex classification system.
- Proficient technology skills, especially with Microsoft Office applications, HRIS such as Workday, and applicant tracking systems.
- Demonstrated experience effectively fostering and sustaining global and cultural inclusiveness.
- Demonstrated successful management of organizational change and leading organizations through transitions.
