SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Assistant Inspector General for Mission Support is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing the Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) mission support functions, such as administration; budget and finance; contracting and procurement; information technology; facilities; and human capital. The incumbent also advises the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General and other AIGs on key legislative, regulatory, and policy developments that directly affect the business and administrative operations of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Directs and manages the OIG’s mission support division by providing oversight for administrative functions, human capital planning, information technology, financial, budget, contracting, procurement, and facilities
- Participates with the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General and the other Assistant Inspector Generals in setting and aligning the strategic direction and goals of the office
- Develops OIG policy and processes, business plans, budgets, goals and metrics to support the IG’s overall strategic goals and objectives
- Provides direction and guidance in developing and implementing business and administrative functions that enhance the operating efficiency of the OIG
- Ensures mission support functions align with the OIG’s strategic plans and objectives
- Attracts, develops and retains a highly skilled and motivated staff to execute the business functions of the organization
Requirements
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, government, political science, public administration or related fields or an equivalent combination of education and training
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have significant relevant experience in Mission Support functions including Human Capital, Budget/Finance, Contracting/Procurement, and Information Technology.
- Knowledge of how business/administrative services support mission critical programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven analytical, problem solving and project management skills
- Thought leadership and change agent skills
- Ability to work across organizational boundaries to reach mutual goals
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of external and internal stakeholders

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
- An advanced degree from an accredited university in business administration, political science, public administration, finance or other relevant field
- Experience working in a Federal or quasi-Federal OIG environment
- Experience with the accountability community (e.g., OIG, GAO)
- Familiarity with Amtrak systems or other rail systems
- Understanding of the Federal Budget Process and Treasury Systems

COMPENSATION:
The salary/hourly range is $196,806 - $265,689. In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for public transportation ( Title 6 U.S.C. § 1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
