SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Provide leadership and daily management of subordinate supervisors and their assigned employees based in various locations. Ensure that employees perform their responsibilities and provide service in a safe manner consistent with Amtrak’s service standards, operating rules (Amtrak, CSXT, NS and BBRR), procedures, and special instructions. Work effectively to continuously improve assigned services and related customer satisfaction. Meet with State Representatives to discuss performance of State Supported trains.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position is accountable for the safe and efficient movement of trains and for the oversight of managers, train and engine crews between operating on the Southeast Region and Host Railroads. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership and management for the region road foreman and trainmasters, managing and monitoring requirements, executing and managing the Region safety plan in compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations, managing the departmental budget and develop cost-effective operating crew couplets, working with CMS and supporting block training with the employees for the Southeast Region, ensuring all bulletins, equipment, posting, etc. Adheres to labor, federal and Amtrak regulations enforcing and managing the rules and regulations for Amtrak policies and operation practices, initiate no-compliance and recommend appropriate action, overseeing new-hire locomotive engineer on-the-job training programs, monitoring OTP for the area of responsibility and recommend ways to improve performance in conjunction with Host Railroads, overseeing conductor remittance audits, responding to service disruptions and act as senior site commander when designated. Ensure consistent compliance with established operating rules and other instructions, along with all applicable Amtrak service standards and documented in TDRS/SPARTAN observations from train-riding and other supervisory oversight programs
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Transportation or related fields or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Significant experience in Transportation (specifically in passenger rail, commuter rail or commercial aviation); Product Development (specifically in Transportation services): or Hospitality Management. Demonstrated experience in the successful management of a supervisory staff as well as bargaining-unit craft employees with an emphasis on coaching, team-building and motivation is an absolute must.
- Must have a minimum of 5-7 years management experience in one of the aforementioned fields.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
- College degree in related field with 10 or more years experience effectively supervising employees is preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Communicate effectively and reach across Regional and departmental lines.
- Build effective, working relationships with CSXT, NS and BBRR, necessary to make Amtrak service the best it can be.
- Must be a strong inter-personal communicator with excellent writing skills.
- Must be able to perform effective root-cause analysis of problematic product, service and organizational situation, along with the ability to develop and successfully implement practical solutions in a timely and efficient manner.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $107,830-$139,750, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for public transportation ( Title 6 U.S.C. § 1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
