POSITION SUMMARY:
The Moms Do Care Behavioral Health Clinician (MDC BHC) functions as a core member of a collaborative treatment team for pregnant, post-partum and parenting women, which includes nursing, recovery coaching, gynecological and obstetrical care, and other social support services. The MDC BHC provides consultation/assessment, bio-psychosocial evaluations, interventions, counseling (group and individual), and linkage services, advocacy, education, information in order to ensure adequacy of health care, increase access of services, enhance physical and psychological well-being, and facilitate patient self-care. Patients are referred (optimally via warm hand-off) from MDC Clinical Care Coordinator, Adult Medicine or Pediatric Behavioral Health providers, Harm Reduction Clinic staff, or external agencies. The MDC BH Clinician works to deliver trauma-informed care that is uniquely supportive of pregnant, post-partum, and parenting women and their children, especially as they may need to navigate involvement with child protective services.

DUTIES:
- Provide culturally sensitive assessment, consultation and intervention for substance use and psychiatric problems and/or disorders and diagnostic clarification utilizing DSM-5.
- Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions and treatment planning (Suicidal/Homicidal Risk Assessment/Substance Use Disorder Assessment)
- Provide individual and group therapies such as Relapse Prevention Strategies, Cognitive Behavioral Treatment and curriculums such as Group Treatment for Substance Abuse: A Stages of Change Therapy Manual and Harm Reduction Psychotherapy: A New Treatment for Drug and Alcohol Problems.
- Complete biopsychosocial assessment in order to make referral to psychiatry
- Complete MDC GPRA screener, intake, and follow-up and DPH ESM intake to MDC program participants as needed, and other required data collection and entry as required by MDC grant funding contracts
- Provide an array of clinical services for general behavioral health problems and areas of behavioral medicine (treatment planning/provision) to assist patients with meeting goals. To include:
- Behavior and Mood Management Panic & Anxiety Management
- Substance Use Assessment & Intervention
- Interim Check of Psychotropic Medication Response Stress & Anger Management
- Relaxation Training and Skill Building Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing Mindfulness Strategies
- Behavioral Structure Goal Setting Problem Solving
- Work as a member of an integrated, multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care from referral through treatment completion; providing closely coordinated care with other clinical staff
- Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner
- Facilitate consultation between in BNHC Psychiatrist and MDC providers and co-management of patients.
- Facilitate consultation between community-based mental health, substance use, and psychiatric providers and co-management of patients.
- Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence based treatment for medical and mental health conditions.
- Ability to work through brief patient contacts as well as to make quick and accurate clinical assessment of mental and behavioral conditions.
- Good knowledge of psychopathology and psychopharmacology.
SKILLS:
- Comfortable with the pace of integrated behavioral health, warm hand off referrals, and working with an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and move ahead without constant instructions.
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands
- Excellent knowledge of community resources
- Able to deliver services in a non-judgmental, non-coercive manner that is inclusive of patient autonomy
- The ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected chronic conditions.
- Language and cultural diversity (Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, French, and Spanish) preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Mental Health Counselor in good standing in Massachusetts
- Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor additionally preferred

Works in a busy community health center in a downtown business district. Long hours are sometimes required. Some in-state travel required. May require occasional night or weekend work. May also require work on mobile medical unit for substance use disorder care in the city of Brockton.

Physical demands requiring lifting of small pieces of equipment, boxes, and/or patients not to exceed forty (40) pounds. Mostly standing and walking required. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading. Hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversation with or without audio devices.
