The Billing Manager be liaison with the outsourced billing vendor(s), oversee training opportunities for staff who contribute to the revenue cycle, lead the creation of standard operating procedures, ensure that necessary reporting is obtained in a timely manner from in house or outsource resources, and ensure all revenue cycle key performance indicators are being met successfully. This individual acts as the liaison between staff for coding, charting errors and related updates. We are accepting applicants who are interested in this position on a remote basis.

Essential Functions:

  • Support billing questions from patients and outreach to patients regarding insurance eligibility and patient balances and payment plans.
  • Collaborate with the PSR Manager to provide and/or provide training (PSR’s, Patient Navigators, Financial Applicators) in the areas of patient co-pays, eligibility verifications, ABNs).
  • Monitor KPIs to determine adherence to policies and identifies further areas of training needed.
  • Support the development and implementation of accurate and efficiency workflows between internal staff and external vendors related to the revenue cycle.
  • Achieve super user status of Dental and Medical EHR regarding billing & collections; coordinate activities with other clinical super users.
  • Reconcile cash collections and payments between bank deposits, payment posting to accounts receivable.
  • Support capacity to enroll patients Medicaid or other insurance through coordination with Medicaid Outreach Specialist
  • Work as a liaison between the Care Clinic, the providers, human resources, and the credentialing vendor to avoid any billing issues related to credentialing.
  • Ensure continued access to all relevant payer portals.
  • Maintain commercial payer’s electronic system with up-to-date employee information.
  • Manage clean claim submissions in a timely manner (14 business days), including preparation of a preliminary claims report Submit external reports, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • If on site:
    • Daily mail pickup and drop off. Sorting mail to the proper departments.
    • Scan all billing mail to the appropriate billing teams.
    • Deposit processing- pick up deposits at appropriate sites, organize and take to the bank.
    • Assist with other administrative billing functions as needed, such as statement processing etc.
    • Rotate administrative assistance to Patient Services Representative Leaders (Medical, BH, Dental, School Based Health Centers)- this includes paperwork processing, patient outreach as needed, any other administrative task that can support PSR operations for all services and sites.
    • Fill in as a Patient Service Representative in times of short staffing or PTO, learn how to check patients in and out; collect payment in both electronic health records systems.

Additional Requirements:

  • Grants are a vital part of Care Clinic revenues and directly or indirectly support all positions. This role may have responsibilities that are closely associated with grant deliverables. Grants and grant responsibilities may change over time.
  • Complete all required trainings as designated by HR and the position manager.
  • Adhere to all policies within organization and those outlined withing the SCCC Employee Handbook.
  • Comply with all SCCC Vaccine Mandates.
  • Willingness to travel and work at other SCCC locations as determined by the manager.
  • Comply with all applicable Credentialing and Privileging requirements timely.
  • Embrace the SCCC Mission and Vision and agree to work within the SCCC Guiding Principles and the principles set by the position manager.
  • Must participate in quality assurance/ improvement activities when applicable.

Education/Experience:

Must Haves to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent between education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in billing, collections, and other patient finance activities in a healthcare setting– preferably a clinic or physician practice setting.
  • Proven skills with management, people skills, etc. with exemplary performance recommendations regarding patient, peer & management interactions.
  • Self-motivated with career-oriented attitude to continuous improvement & development of personal skills and organizational goals.
  • Ability to read, write and clearly speak the English language.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with multiple linguistic and cultural variables.
  • Confidently use a computer to create, edit and navigate Word and Excel documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to reason objectively.
  • Ability to interpret state/ federal/agency regulations.
  • Ability to document concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to handle a variety of duties that may be interrupted or changed by immediate circumstances.
  • Ability to tolerate high-stress situations.

Work Environment:

The work environment is in a healthcare setting and can be fast-paced and involves communication with patients and medical personnel. This role is highly clerical in nature.
