Union Tank Car Company is seeking new employees at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania to assist in various departments as needed by plant production. We are looking for qualified 3
rd
shift Blasters to perform tank car repairs during a Monday-Thursday, 10-hour per day workweek. We are looking for a Blaster that will be responsible for removal of paint and oxidation from railcars prior to paint, removal of expended blast materials.
Primary Job Functions
- Safely operate blast equipment on the interior and exterior of tank cars with moderate supervision
- Complete blast work in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards; comply with established safety, quality, and company policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess job-related knowledge; for example, ability to follow work instructions on a document, ability to read a ruler and tape measure, ability to use hand tools.
- Must be dependable and maintain good attendance; must have reliable transportation; must be able to work scheduled work shifts including overtime.
- Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, position-specific examinations, background screening, and education verifications.
Environmental and Working Conditions
- Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation. Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car while working.
- May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection.
- Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards.
- Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
