Join our team at KWS Seeds, LLC where the purpose is to work under the direction of the Plant Breeder, to develop and improve Sugarbeet varieties according to specific goals. Provide leadership and guidance to breeding and field staff in support of projects to optimize breeding activities for North America, with an emphasis on data analysis and management. We are seeking to hire an Assistant Breeder Sugar Beet US for our Plant Breeding team on a full-time basis in Shakopee, MN, USA.

Essential job functions:
  • Collect, validate, analyze, and manage data from proprietary and/or Official Variety Trials, disease and insect nurseries, and greenhouse trials at the various company locations.
  • Prepare and present reports and summaries as requested regarding breeding-related information.
  • Organize and manage databases.
  • Organize proprietary, methodical, and/or Official Variety Trials per the breeders’ request and communicate with testing agencies, verify invoices, and maintain records.
  • Work cross-functionally with product management, sales, and marketing as well as IT departments.
  • Organize and participate in various activities that includes seed production, trials, and greenhouse projects.
  • Conduct studies to establish or improve testing protocols.
  • Cross-train with other research staff to maintain workflow.
  • Lead, direct, and participate in team activities and facilitate communication with colleagues.
  • Provide leadership and work direction for breeding programs to the station groups.
  • Provide training to develop staff, interns and temporary labor.
  • Ensure the Company Handbook, Rules, Guidelines, Procedures, and safety policies are followed, and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
  • Travel internationally and domestically as needed and drive on behalf of the business.
  • Work variable hours as needed.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in agriculture, biology, horticulture, or related field.
  • 2 or more years of experience in agriculture or research.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite and database skills.
  • Ability to work variable hours including occasional weekends as required by the business.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and communication skills with consistent attention to detail.
  • Bilingual skills.

Working environment:
Perform indoor and occasionally outdoor work in variable conditions including heat, cold, dust, wind and rain. Greenhouse and field environments with exposure to pollen and handling chemicals. Occasional overnight travel as needed, including international.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
