Budget & Housing Coach - Part Time - Traverse City

Position Objectives:

• To deliver FMS education and coaching effectively and efficiently; and to represent the agency in a professional, friendly, and caring manner.

Purpose:

Works directly with customers through education and casework to empower them to improve the quality of their lives and strengthen their communities.

Essential functions:

Customer Education

• Teach courses in Money Management and Homeownership offered throughout the month on weekends and evenings.
• Manage educational environment whether over zoom or in person.
• Collect data such as attendance records and evaluations.
• Distribute educational packets and materials.
• Review/update curriculum annually with FMS staff.
  
  

Customer Advocacy and Casework

• Provide customer with extensive case-management assistance, maintenance of customer files in database, complete with case notes as appropriate in one or more of the following areas in partnership with other Budget/Housing Coaches:

• Case management Budget Coaching
• Homeownership (first-time homebuyer)
  • HUD Comprehensive Housing Counseling Program
  • MSHDA Homeownership Counseling Program
• Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS)
• Individual Development Account (IDA)
• Foreclosure Prevention Counseling
• Support to homeless prevention case management

• Populate/maintain client databases and tracking.
  
  

Public Relations

• Responsible for promoting NMCAA services in the community through public speaking.
• Present at outreach activities in the community.
• Maintain regular contact with customer groups and/or community partners to promote Financial Management Services Programs.

Other

• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
• Meet all relevant ROMA performance targets and goals and objectives of the Agency’s CSBG Work Plan, or other service contracts.
• Submit Programmatic reports as required.
• Complete other duties as requested.

Minimum Education:

• BA or BS in human services field, accounting, business or equivalent.
• High School diploma with minimum 5 years work experience in related field.

Minimum Skills Required:

• Experience with low-income and/or at-risk individuals with low-income financial issues or home-ownership counseling / education.
• Utilize excellent communication skills in individual and group settings, good organizational skills, self-motivated, able to multi-task, ability to work independently and as an effective team member and have a commitment of the NMCAA mission.

Minimum Experience:

• Experience with low-income and/or at-risk individuals, education, or customer service. Prior experience with housing counseling/education a plus.
