Supervisor: Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor of Transportation
Job Objective:
Assist the Bus Driver in the safe, efficient, and courteous transportation of students. Keeps the Supervisor of Transportation informed about maintenance concerns and emerging issues. Works to provide non-academic supports to ensure opportunity and access to each and every student.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Documentation of a clear criminal record.
Holds a valid Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit or Student Monitor Permit.
Ability to physically manage students including the care of the students of disabilities.
Ability to anticipate and deal with stressful traffic and weather conditions.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:
1. Checks with the supervisor of transportation services to learn about the needs of students being transported. Seeks advice when expectations are unclear.
2. Upholds board policies, follows administrative procedures and complies with the Employee Code of Conduct. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
3. Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
4. Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance.
5. Supervises bus loading and unloading procedures. Operates the wheelchair lift. Ensures that wheelchairs are properly secured before the bus starts. Assists student with mobility needs. Ensure that students are comfortable and safely secured.
6. Inspects harnesses, restraints, and other safety devices. Immediately corrects or reports unsafe conditions and/or defective equipment.
7. Anticipates and is prepared to offer assistance when aware of passengers with medical or other health considerations.
8. Monitors student behavior. Enforces safety regulations. Maintains high standards and upholds the student code of conduct.
9. Promotes the proper use and care of school property. Reports student discipline problems, vandalism, and other related concerns.
10. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
11. Assumes responsibility for the interior/exterior cleanliness of the vehicle.
12. Reports vehicles that fail to comply with traffic regulations (e.g., failure to stop for flashing bus lights, passing in prohibited zones, etc.).
13. Uses proper protocol when operating bus communication equipment.
14. Immediately reports all traffic citations and accidents. Promptly documents all injuries that require a medical referral. Provides basic first aid and emergency care within the scope of training.
15. Follows all guidelines as a part of the District’s Exposure Control Plan.
16. Reports road hazards along the bus route to the supervisor of transportation services.
17. Participates in the district’s bus safety program as directed.
18. Conducts emergency evacuation drills that comply with current state standards.
19. Reports equipment malfunctions in writing.
20. Shares in the responsibility for authorized field trips. Remains available to teachers and students during the trip when instructed.
21. Reports all accidents and incidents to the Supervisor immediately.
22. Reports student discipline problems, vandalism, or other related concerns to the building principal. Works with principals and supervisors to address discipline issues.
23. Acts responsibly to protect school property. Takes appropriate action during adverse weather conditions.
24. Prepares and maintains an annual equipment inventory.
25. Takes precautions to ensure staff and student safety. Reports unauthorized persons or suspicious circumstances immediately.
26. Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
27. Effectively and positively communicates with students, families, and other staff.
28. Keeps current and shares knowledge about advances in equipment technology.
29. Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
30. Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
31. Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a professional appearance.
32. Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others.
33. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
