Buyer / Supply Chain / Procurement Specialist - Aerospace Manufacturing

This position is salary/exempt supporting 1st & 2nd shift operations. Typical hours are 40 - 50 hours per week with a schedule of 7am - 5pm, M - F. Occasional Saturday work will be needed to support inventory counts and control.

Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications. In addition, Wyman-Gordon has heat treating, testing, and other operations that support its global forging business.
Location Profile:
Located in Ontario, CA, Summit Machine, LLC specializes in the rough and finish machining of super alloys for the aerospace, commercial, defense, power, and petroleum industries. Complex components include nickel base, titanium, stainless steel, aluminum and carbon steels with parts ranging in size from 2” OD – 120” OD.
Position Summary:
The Buyer is a vital part of the Supply Chain / Purchasing job function. The successful candidate will lead, facilitate, and execute site supply chain activities and continuous improvement projects using a variety of continuous improvement skills, concepts, and tools. Additionally, this position will manage supplies, tools, raw material, WIP, and finished-goods inventory. This position is considered an intermediate professional, with growth potential in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Provider leadership support to the Tool Crib
  • Plan and direct tool crib functions.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and organization of tool crib.
  • Forecast, receive, and release production items to shop floor.
  • Establish daily priorities to ensure sufficient tooling and shop supplies.
  • Coordinate and direct daily activities of team members responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing tools and/or equipment to other workers.
  • Identify, monitor, and report department KPI’s – key performance indicators.
  • Report daily metrics including tooling expenses, regrinds, performance vs. budget, etc.
  • Conduct audits to ensure employees are performing tasks according to standard operating procedures.
  • Provide performance coaching to tool crib staff.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are enforced and adhered to at all times.
Act as a primary buyer for the site
  • Determine purchasing strategy and locate and approve qualified vendors.
  • Prepare purchase orders and releases in Oracle system, generate orders and communicate to vendors.
  • Expedite material, equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Keep manager informed of market changes and large purchases/projects and other issues as they arise.
  • Input and maintain purchasing data in Oracle system.
  • Ensure accurate inventory levels are maintained in the tool crib by establishing MIN & MAX quantity thresholds.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records in Oracle.
  • Prepare inventory reports and weekly cycle count updates.
  • Maintain professional image of PCC within the supplier community.
Continuous Improvement Champion
  • Coordinate supply chain cost improvement pipeline for facility within the purchasing function.
  • Plan and lead CI initiatives throughout the plant (Six Sigma, LEAN, FMEA teams, Kaizen events, etc.)
  • Provide evaluation of group processes and methods to ensure the most effective use of resources and equipment
  • Promote continues improvement and cost reduction initiatives
  • Develop cost justifications for improvement project and corrective actions

Required Skills:
  • Use data to drive projects to completion
  • Working knowledge and understanding of tool crib processes and procedures
  • Working knowledge and understanding of quality systems, standards, and procedures
  • Ability to contribute to business-related problem solving
  • Oracle ERP system experience a plus.
  • Cycle count inventory management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written forms.

Experience & Education:
  • BS/BA in Engineering, Business, Materials Management, or similar field is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in supply chain, purchasing, or similar function is required.
  • Minimum 6 months leadership experience is required.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment is preferred.
