Job Summary

The Thermal CAE Engineer is responsible for analyzing key mechanical, thermal, electrochemical, and pack energy systems, in-house, as well as guide any analysis outsourced to 3rd party suppliers. This individual will work closely with our engineering design and prototype engineering teams, along with key suppliers and the validation/testing teams.


Responsibilities

  • Develops various component modules ranging from active liquid cooling systems, battery cells, electrical conductors, mechanical structures, and control modules into a system module.
  • Performs “Digital Validation” of real-time continuous battery system models to ensure design robustness and to identify improvement areas.
  • Confirms design functionality and robustness of key mechanical, thermal, and electrical battery systems via MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape tools.
  • Optimize early design concepts of key mechanical, thermal, fluid, and electrical systems using simulation results, lessons learned & former experience.
  • Works closely with the Systems/CAE team to bridge the gap between 1D calculations and 3D simulations, by using Simulink/Simscape models, per the requirements and constraints.
  • Works closely with the Validation team to ensure DVP&Rs properly test the critical physical properties of the components and systems.
  • Participates in DRBTRs to ensure results from physical validation are fed back into virtual analysis, to improve the accuracy & value of future results.
  • Reviews interfaces, supplier information, specifications, and validation data to ensure simulation of proper materials, dimensions, and interactions within the boundary conditions.
  • Contributes to DFMEAs and helps to troubleshoot any issues with battery systems.
  • Works closely with external resources for extended modeling support; leading and guiding them.
  • Expands professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Develops new modeling approaches to improve accuracy and efficiency, including life analysis
  • Contributes to team growth by mentoring, training, and completing projects in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Engineering or a related technical field of study; will accept an equivalent foreign degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the above position as an analysis engineer or in a related engineering role in the Automotive industry.
  • Experience must include: Fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, a simulation computing environment (ANSYS, Cradle, Hypermesh. Nastran, or similar), CAD models for meshing and preprocessing, and 1D and 3D simulations.
  • Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers, as well as effectively communicating with suppliers.
