Position Summary:The Catering Manager will be responsible for coordination, planning and detailing of meetings and events at the resort. Additionally, the manager will be responsible for local catering sales, and creating a local presence in the community. Professionalism, accuracy, attention to detail, communication skills, ability to multi-task, positive attitude and dedicated work ethic is critical.
Qualification Standards
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or related business discipline, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hotel catering services
- Banquet experience preferred
Skill Requirements:
- Proficiency in the following software required; MS Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Delphi.
- Great computer and administration skills; ability to type contracts and create customizable proposals
- Passion for hospitality
- Creative thinker; creating themes and upscale events
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays and evenings and willingness to travel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Highly resourceful, organized, personable, refined and positive interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to foresee customer needs and develop long-lasting client relationships while working with high-end customers, brands and clients.
- Takes ownership and accountability of projects and events.
Duties & Functions
- The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the planning and execution of group meetings and events. ( SMERF/Weddings, catering and Internal Events.)
- Accurately and clearly communicate all group specifications, detail and history to appropriate operational departments, ensuring that all specifications are implemented and executed to established guidelines
- Proactively up-sell to both maximize revenues and create our unique experience
- Generate additional group revenue by referring available goods, services, attractions, transportation and vendors
- Create customized themed events and team building, working with Westin team members to maximize each opportunity
- Manage and ensure a high level of client satisfaction through personalizing and customizing each event, listening to customer needs and proactively responding to inevitable adjustments and changes in a positive and professional manner
- Maintain an on-site presence at events as required
- Create group resumes, agendas, and services.
- Create event orders
- Maximize event space within all team member needs and ensure proper use of function space, event space, and exterior real estate
- Create written communications to include contract addendums, introductory letters, site tour alert forms, amenity requests, contracts and proposals
- Finalize billing packet, review for accuracy and present to client
- Conduct pre and post-convention meetings
- Ensure that all events adhere to company policies, fire department regulations, state liquor laws and other applicable government regulations
Group and Local Sales:
- Assist Department Directors with sales and event opportunities and projects as requested (cold calling, sales blitz, fam trips, trade shows, etc.)
- Group Rooms Contributions: prospects, negotiates, creates proposals and contracts for small group meetings and events.
- Generate positive exposure for the hotel in the community through involvement and attendance of local meetings, social events and other opportunities.
