Required Qualifications
  • Associates Degree and one year of relevant experience. A GED/High School Diploma plus 1-year transferrable program/functional experience may substitute for an Associate’s degree.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Travel Requirements - Ability to meet the regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required.

  • Program Skills –Ability to effectively support and coordinate assigned programs.
  • Communication & Marketing Skills - Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with program participants, volunteers, employees and others through a variety of media. Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and others.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient writing skills.
  • Familiarity using ArcGIS (geographic information system).
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cooperative Extension.
  • Knowledge of forestry and agroforestry practices.
  • Knowledge of watershed management concepts.
  • Knowledge of impacts and challenges of climate change.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction – 5%
  • Assists the supervisor and program staff plan assigned programs, meetings, and events.
Management – 5%
  • Assists the supervisor and program staff manage assigned programs, meetings, and events utilizing established policies and procedures.
Coordination/Operation – 85%
  • Assist team with the contract deliverables related to Climate Smart Communities program work.
  • Provide administrative support to supervisor and program staff on tasks including but not limited to climate smart resilience planning tools, resilience visions, assessments, adaptation plans and road-stream crossing plans in collaboration with partners and municipalities.
  • Assist in the coordination of municipal and partner meetings both in-person and virtually.
  • Attend team, municipal, and partner meetings as needed. Often takes notes and record relevant information as directed by supervisor.
  • Collect and compile state, county, and local government documents, reports, and meeting summaries into project reports.
  • Support team in preparing, delivering, and conducting follow-up on public presentations and programs.
  • Assist with administrative aspects of the Siuslaw Model Forest work plans and related activities. This includes the assistance with the maintenance of educational and research demonstrations in addition to trails and signage.
  • Help maintain program tools and equipment.
  • Organize program materials and supplies.
  • Maintain updated schedule of workshops, demonstrations, and events on the program calendar.
  • Promote and coordinate meetings, events, and other duties as identified.
  • Draft standard communications for supervisor use, referring to supervisor’s occasional assistance.
  • Assist with coordination of marketing and promotion of programming through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and other organizations.
  • Provide administrative support for the coordination and implementation of multi-media efforts in the promotion of programming.
  • Coordinate and assist with special projects and outreach efforts as needed.
  • Assist with program evaluation by collecting evaluation and needs assessment data from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.
  • Submit program expense reports.
Professional Improvement – 5%
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Position Details
