Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for the Department of Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School. The Certified Medical Assistant will assist the Occupational Medicine Director, nurses, and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a provider. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records. Clinical duties may include, helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates individualized care based on patient assessment and the medical plan of care.
  • Obtains pre-certification and /or prior authorization from insurance companies for patient management, as assigned.
  • Monitors patient flow and communicates with any issues or problems that arise with the clinical staff; seeks assistance from clinical staff when communication back to the waiting room is needed.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains patient safety, comfort, and cleanliness.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to maintain a timely and organized flow of patients and visitors throughout their experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Meets the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners definition of a “certified medical assistant” as outlined in NJAC 13:35-6.4(a)2. Under AAMA, AMT, NCCT or NHA certifying Boards.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be computer proficient.
  • Must be comfortable preparing and administering vaccinations/immunizations as directed by a physician or other licensed provider.
  • Must be able to draw blood using sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of related experience in medical office setting.

  • Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pulls. Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility for charting (typing). Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
