Position Summary

NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME. ALL TIMES SHOWN ARE IN EASTERN TIME.

Under the direction of the Dean of Students and Campus Services, this position serves as the administrative head of the Campus Police Department. Responsibilities include managing the daily functions of the department, supervising the campus police officers, security officers, evaluation, and reacting to situations involving the safety and security of the College community.

Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule C3, Rank 1: $46,395-$75,267.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervise and manage the functions and personnel of the Campus Police and Security Department.

2. Ensure increased efficiency and effectiveness of the department by developing procedures, methods, policies, and training.

3. Provide foot and vehicular patrol of the campus.

4. Respond to and investigate all incidents on campus including but not limited to motor vehicle accidents or criminal or college violations.

5. Conduct complex misdemeanor and or felony investigations including but not limited to interviewing victims, suspects and offenders, preparing photo lineups, collecting evidence and preparing case files.

6. Provide security to college community, as requested, including but not limited to escorting personnel to vehicles late at night or acting as a witness at meetings involving potentially irate personnel or students.

7. Appear in court and testify as required.

8. Coordinate appropriate training for departmental personnel to ensure currency in field and meet or exceed standards established by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and the Alabama Community College System.

9. Coordinates storage of criminal evidence and destruction of evidence upon completion of criminal cases.

10. Keep administration updated on situations and developments involving the safety and security of college locations.

11. Carry out research on law enforcement trends and how they affect the campus community.

12. Responsible for coordination of documentation and accounting of all activities of the department.

13. Responsible for ensuring incident reports are completed and submitted to the Dean of Students and Campus Services in a timely manner.

14. Coordinates the submission of all criminal reports to the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System as required by state law.

15. Act as liaison between college and outside agencies involving matters of safety and security.

16. Coordinate the presentation of annual Emergency Operation Plan training for all employees.

17. Coordinate new student and new employee Emergency Operation Plan training.

18. Coordinate drills and exercises, to include evacuation and lock down drills in every building during every twenty-four-month cycle.

19. Directs the planning, organization and execution of all emergency management activities to assure that its activities are coordinated with county, state and national programs.

20. Maintains and updates hazard mitigation, emergency response and recovery plans for all campuses.

21. Coordinates training with emergency response partners to ensure proper unified response during critical events.

22. Provide training to faculty and staff concerning indicators of potential problematic behaviors so that positive behavioral interventions can allow the at-risk individual to thrive.

23. Publish an Annual Security Report by October 1 of each year and distribute to all students and college staff annually.

24. Submit Clery Act documentation to System Office by July 1 annually.

25. Maintain a Daily Crime Log as required by the Clery Act.

26. Provide training as requested to the campus community related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and drug abuse and alcohol abuse prevention.

27. Assist with Behavioral Intervention Team activities and conduct threat assessments on student and employee disciplinary actions and persons identified as potential threats as requested by the appropriate administrator and chairperson of the Behavioral Intervention Team.

28. Serve as game day administrator for athletic events and provide security for athletic competitions, events, and activities as directed by the Dean of Students and Campus Services.

29. Assist with preparing and updating the Emergency Operations Plan, the Campus and Safety Plan, and the Annual Security Report (ASR).

30. Assist with and participate in recruiting activities, campus tours, Preview Day, and New Student Experience.

31. Assist with ensuring that information communicated in College publications, the College website, and other College resources is updated and accurate.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the College.

2. Maintain confidentiality of identified sensitive information and of departmental information.

3. Remain current in and enhance professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.

4. Interact with and serve diverse student and employee populations in a courteous and friendly manner.

5. Adhere to College standards of professionalism and confidentiality, including courteous and friendly interaction with other CVCC employees.

6. Maintain appropriate work hours as outlined in State and College policies and assigned by supervisor or dean.

7. Recruit potential students to the College and assist in retention efforts.

8. Represent the institution in a positive manner.

9. Participate in advance registration, regular registration, and schedule adjustment as assigned.

10. Serve on College and community committees as assigned.

11. Participate in graduation.

12. Attend department and division meetings.

13. Participate in the College’s strategic planning and strategic enrollment management planning processes

14. Coordinate training for college personnel on matters of safety and security.

15. Assist in development of plans and procedures for campus security, emergency response, and other related matters.

16. Appear in court and testify as required.

17. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • · High School Diploma or GED required.
  • · Minimum of two years employment experience as a police officer required.
  • · Valid Alabama Peace Officers Standard and Training Commission (APOST) Minimum Standards Certificate or ability to achieve a lateral transfer from APOST required.
  • · Must have the ability to qualify with a personal firearm and obtain a concealed carry license within first month of employment
  • · Valid Alabama driver’s license required and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
  • · Must have the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within first month of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • · Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited post-secondary institution
