POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Appropriate activities should be providing for growth in skills, self-awareness, group relations, and character development. By conducting him/herself in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner, this position is a role model for children and adults.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Keep safety of children as a first priority-with emphasis on an atmosphere that is family friendly, age-appropriate, inclusive, and conductive to a quality driven environment.
- Provide a warm flexible, engaging environment for children and families.
- Supervise children and assume accountability for all children in care
- Maintain a clean, safe and orderly environment at all times.
- Maintain daily attendance records.
- Works as a team player, supporting co-workers and supports the mission of the YMCA in the community.
- Knows and abides by YMCA policies, facility policies, accident/incident reports, code of conduct, etc.
- Arrive to work on time and in proper attire.
- Attend all YMCA staff meetings, Departmental meetings and staff trainings as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to walk, stand and sit for long periods of time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Previous experience providing classes/programs/activities for youth a plus
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Dedication to the pursuit of education (for self and children)
- Excitement and positive attitude toward working with children and families
- A strong sense of maturity and responsibility
