The Unit Secretary/Computer Operator shall be appointed by and accountable to the Unit Director. The Unit Secretary/Computer Operator shall perform secretarial and clerical duties, including computer operations, inventorying, updating Mexia State School Policies and Procedures, receiving and distributing mail, completing work orders, and other duties as assigned. The Unit Secretary/Computer Operator shall serve under the direct supervision of the Unit Director, or Assistant Unit Director in the absence of the Unit Director.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Attends to office matters in a capable and courteous manner to assure an efficient operation. Compiles information and statistical data and prepares necessary departmental reports, forms, documentation.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location

7. Ability to be flexible in handling work assignments.
8. Works harmoniously with other staff and the general public to generate productive, cohesive work settings and positive public and inter personal relationships.
9. Observes and obeys all safety rules applicable to all aspects of facility and departmental operations to minimize self-injuries or injuries of clients and co-workers. Does not endanger the safety or health of self or others, and enhances the Safety and Health program of Mexia State School.
10. Conducts self at all times in a manner consistent with standards expected of HHSC employees as outlined by HHSC Rules and MSSLC Policies and Procedures.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.

Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED plus six (6) months of work experience in secretarial work. One (1) semester (15 semester hours) of accredited college or vocational/technical training or work in a related field may substitute for each six (6) months of the required work experience. Additional related work experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
