Position Overview

The Client Relationship Manager will work closely with the Director of Risk Services to close new business, service existing accounts and facilitate client renewals. This individual will be responsible for supporting agency growth and account retention goals by providing extraordinary client service, proactively expanding client relationships, and marketing the benefits of services provided. The Client Relationship Manager will also provide operations support to the team by maintaining client records, ensuring proper documentation, responding to inquiries, and processing account transactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes the day-to-day maintenance and servicing of assigned accounts.
  • Achieves assigned agency growth and account retention goals.
  • Cross sells and markets agency services; places new and renewal accounts as appropriate.
  • Applies problem solving techniques to various issues concerning cancellations, claims, renewal issues, and carrier issues.
  • Builds and fosters relationships with clients, carrier marketing representatives and underwriters.
  • Maintains and updates client files, ensures proper documentation, and processes all endorsement changes, invoices, binders, certificates of insurance, documentation, and activities in a timely manner.
  • Responds to client inquiries, incoming e-mail, mail, and company requests in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Participates in courses for insurance/sales skills. Maintains current knowledge of underwriting requirements of carriers. Keeps current with industry trends by reading appropriate journals and company bulletins.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills through effective verbal and/or written exchanges, active listening and respectful responses.
  • Handles escalated or difficult client service issues with tact and diplomacy, even in the absence of the Director. Strives to resolve problems with a win/win solution.
  • Follows established agency workflows with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates excellent computer and technical skills; has a strong aptitude and willingness for learning new systems.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to clients, customers, employees, carriers, or as appropriate, other information.
  • Strives to increase knowledge and/or enhance skills through continuing education.


Education & Qualifications

  • Property & Casualty Insurance License
  • Working towards or completion of CISR or CIC designation strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of all lines of commercial insurance, including sophisticated and less common coverage options
  • Thorough knowledge of agency operations including claims handling, procedures, carrier rating, agency management systems and applicable insurance laws/codes
  • Familiarity with risk assessment and risk management techniques
  • Experience using Applied Epic or similar customer relationship management system strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent work experience) strongly preferred


Skill(s)

Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations, communicative, and sales skills; a thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of commercial insurance products; proficient PC skills, including knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver’s license is required.
