Job Summary:

The Clinical Documentation Quality Integrity Specialist is responsible for clinical documentation improvement activities to support accuracy and quality of the patient records at Summit Facilities. The Clinical Documentation Quality Integrity Specialist reviews the medical record documentation, identifies clinical indicators, and works with facilities to ensure a complete and accurate medical record. The Clinical Documentation Quality Integrity Specialist will identify potential gaps in clinical documentation for assigned populations and will educate facility members regarding clinical documentation improvement and the need for accurate and complete documentation in the health record.
Job Duties:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures improved documentation to support appropriate coding, reimbursement, and quality data.
  • Works with facility and corporate members to improve individual understanding of documentation needs.
  • Provides documentation education as necessary.
  • Possesses an excellent understanding of State and Federal regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes related to documentation and communicates these changes to appropriate corporate and facility staff.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of the clinical aspects of substance use and psychiatric diagnoses, treatment, pharmacology, and procedures.
  • Maintains chart review skills for documentation quality.
  • Tracks and reports documentation improvement activities.
  • Educates members of the healthcare team about clinical documentation.
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in psychiatric and substance use setting required.
  • Extensive knowledge of HIPAA required and state regulations for hospital facilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and clinical competency.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to integrate knowledge is necessary.
  • Data quality and integrity skills.
  • Advanced PC skills.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
Registered Nurse preferred.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
Two years’ supervisory/management experience required, preferably in behavioral health.
