A mentor and support partner is someone who can help a young adult with minimal verbal speech, to access communication through typing and computer aided communication. The person is there to support, assess, pick up on non verbal body language as well as support the young adult in any way necessary so he can express himself. The person applying for this position needs to understand behavior, underlying reasons why individuals with limited speech may have disruptive behaviors.
This requires very specific skill sets, mindset and most of all emotional intelligence.
The young man you will be supporting is a twenty two year old college student. He lives in the South Bay.
We are seeking a well rounded, smart, emotionally intelligent therapist/mentor partner with the following skills:

What does this position look like on a daily basis?
- Starting at 7:30 you will work a 6-8 hours day with some flexibility - 2 days off guaranteed, your work shifts are scheduled between, Mon-Sat, with 2 definite days off.
- Arrive at clients home, help client get ready for his college/study day
- Help client study/write papers/organize his college classes/study needs
- Accompany client to restaurants/cafes for meals
- Help client with daily life skills such as reminders to wash hands/ accompany to bathroom but toilets independently
- Accompany client to college related activities to support communication with peers
- Mentor client in college life/ inclusion/navigating social events
- Support client in maintaining health, eating/physical exercise
- Accompany client to the gym, physical therapy and acupuncture
- Occasional domestic travel
- Help client with the daily skills of living, cleaning up, managing money, handling purchases etc
- Support and work within the clients team and family life
- Help client with social plans and outings

The details
- You will be part of a professional team of five (2 in home and 3 community/college)
- You will work under the guidance and mentoring of the team manager
- You will be in the family home sometimes so open and able to work and collaborate with team and family
- You will work about, 5-8 hours per day during the week
- You will have travel opportunities occasionally
- You will have access and use of a car to transport client to and from activities but need your own reliable transport to get to and from work
- You will be paid an hourly rate and complete daily time logs and be paid every two weeks
The rate is $20- start pay with room for growth at 6 months and one year, overall pay range is $20-28/hr depending on you, your experience and your capacity for this job
- Bonuses are given for excellent work ethic, commitment and job performance on a bi yearly basis
