Position Overview
The controller is the business partner for the Shelly- NW General Manager: a leader, strategic thinker and developer of talent within the operating company. The controller provides oversite of financial activities for multiple lines of business within the operating company: Aggregate quarries, asphalt plants, and road construction.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Manage and develop the operating company accounting staff.- Review monthly financial statements, and oversee reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Manage month end closings which include journal entries, accruals, inventory adjustments, reviewing P&L’s (compare to budget and investigate variances), inventory management of aggregates, liquid asphalt, and fuels.
- Develop working relationship with operations managers to ensure a strong understanding of the various lines of business. Provide support with financial analysis where needed.
- Prepare annual budgets and financial reforecasts for operating company.
- Prepare for and respond to internal and external audit requests.
- Compile/analyze financial data from multiple sources by way of Excel, Hyperion /Essbase
- Ensure adequate controls are in place and maintained to safeguard financial assets. This includes all SOX controls and OMG and Shelly accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage completion of annual and semi-annual reporting
- Assume ownership of various process improvement initiatives and drive improvements through operating company

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
- Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance required
- MBA/ CPA a plus
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience and training in general finance and accounting areas
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting principles, methods, techniques, standards and metrics.
- Management experience is preferred
- Proficient with Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Must have excellent communication skills including written and verbal
- Hyperion experience is preferred
- Proven analytical skills
- Ability to demonstrate initiative
