JOB TITLE: Convenience Store Assistant Manager

SUPERVISES: Convenience Store Associates

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Always provide efficient and courteous service to customers, ensure all associates of the
  • convenience store providing courteous service to customers.
  • Assist in overall operations of convenience store, acting as the manager in charge in the store
  • managers absence.
  • Assist in product transfers from stores, product ordering, receiving product, and stocking
  • product.
  • Assist in receiving DSD deliveries and ensuring all policies are followed.
  • Checking, completing, and sending reports, documents, and paperwork via written, verbal, or email to the appropriate persons as directed by the store manager.
  • Oversee and monitor accurate retail pricing within guidelines.
  • Understand and enforce all local and state health department rules and practices as well as
  • federal OSHA guidelines and company HACCP policy.
  • Ensure all aspects of company policy and procedures in regards to good business and
  • department practices are followed.
  • Follow company policy regarding Lottery and Lotto sales, assist in lottery reporting, inventory,
  • and compliance.
  • Know and enforce company dress code policies including proper use of name tags.
  • Enforce fund-handling procedures for safety and loss prevention necessity including bank
  • deposits and safe deposits.
  • Assist in good inventory practices, to control shrink in the c-store and assist in preparing store
  • for inventories.
  • Scan and ring customer orders according to company policy.
  • Receive and be accountable for all funds taken for each transaction.
  • Assist in keeping all areas inside and outside of convenience store clean.
  • Know and follow all state and local laws regarding cigarette/tobacco sales.
  • Know and follow all state and local laws regarding alcohol sales.
  • Know and follow all federal laws regarding food stamps.
  • Know and follow all coupon handling procedures.
  • Follow company check cashing and tendering policies.
  • Follow company policy regarding the sale of money orders.
  • Accountable for security of all safe combinations, key, and numbers always entrusted to you.
  • Perform Computer Room duties, as needed, including all reporting and balancing of register tills.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with stocking and ordering of store products (candy, cigarettes, chips, motor oil, drink
  • coolers, etc.).
  • Assist with foodservice operations, including ordering, food service production, and food
  • service inventory.
  • Assist with store transfers and receiving of product.
  • Cleaning the concrete area around the pumps of the fuel station daily with approved methods.
  • Replace misplaced items to the proper location.
  • Collect trash as needed.
  • Keep paper towels and windshield wiper fluid stocked at pumps.
  • Maintain a clean and supplied public restroom area.
  • Keep pumps clean.
  • Brew coffee as needed throughout the day.
  • Clean food service equipment at night (coffee urns, fountain drink machines, milkshake
  • machines).
  • Stock food service supplies and store supplies as needed (fountain drink cups, straws, coffee
  • cups).
  • Assist in keeping food service area sanitize and stocked.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be courteous and positive in all interactions while representing K-VA-T Food
  • Stores, Inc.
  • Complete daily activities and stay on monthly schedule.
  • Provide information for tracking and procedural development.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with customers,
  • supervisors, and associates.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal smoke-free office and retail environment.
  • Adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Normal temperature level and noise level for typical office and retail environments.
  • Routinely working at heights from ladders and lifts.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/HAZARDS:

  • Exposed to potential for physical injury. All recognized governmental, industry and K-VA-T safety
  • procedures must be followed.

WORK LOCATIONS:

  • Individual K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. Convenience Store in assigned location.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Critical failures that will affect product sales must be performed as needed, regardless of
  • schedule and time of day.
  • Planned work that will affect store operations will have to be coordinated with the stores to
  • work around the retail operations.
  • The payroll week runs from Saturday until Friday.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of
  • education and experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of leadership experience in a retail or customer service setting.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide motivation and leadership to associates storewide in a fair and impartial
  • manner.
  • High degree of analytical skills, and the ability to delegate and be self-directed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Technically skilled in basic retail computer systems including related software
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and strategic partnerships
  • Dress according to company policy
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and
  • repetitive tasks and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals daily
  • Ability to attend on-site work during normal business hours, in the typical work week, as well as
  • extra time as needed to fulfill job duties
