CPS PAL Spec II-IV: This position serves as the Preparation for Adult Living Coordinator and is responsible for providing coordination between program staff and contractors: identifying and developing resources for Preparation for Adult Living Youth; providing follow-up services to emancipated youth; providing consultation/education to staff, caregivers and community groups. Attending and participating with foster youth in Conferences and Camps both in region and out of region. Works closely with Contract Management Staff regarding PAL Contracts and budget. This position interacts routinely with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Staff, representatives from various organizations, and the general public. Attends Family Group Conferences and Circles of Support Staffings for youth transitioning out of the foster care system. Additional duties include the identification and collection of necessary evaluative data, statistical reports as requested and budgetary management.




Essential Job Functions:
Provides coordination for Preparation for Adult Living Program Implementation. Provides follow-up services to emancipated youth. Ensures children in foster care are receiving counseling and guidance in preparation for independent living/emancipation while they are still in care. Attend, coordinate, transport/supervise and assists in planning statewide and regional conferences. Monitors Preparation for Adult Living Contract service delivery and coordinates contract needs with contract management staff. Maintains sufficient case documentation including forms and narratives to provide a complete and accurate written record in assigned Preparation for Adult Living only cases for each youth receiving Preparation for Adult Living services. Provides Preparation for Adult Living program consultation/education to staff, caregivers, foster and biological parents, community stakeholders and the general public. Develops and maintains communication and working relationships with clients, contractors, Department of Family and Protective Services Staff and the community. Works with coordination of activities for the Regional Youth Leadership Council in conjuction with the Regional Youth Specialist. Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations. Attends and participates in training/meetings/staffings in region and out of region. Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers and all work-related contacts. Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.




Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of Agency policies and procedures. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to operate a personal computer and use various software packages including, the Information Management Protecting Adults and Children System, Excel, Outlook and Word. Ability to travel and attend meetings after 5:00pm and some week-ends. Ability to work with volunteers, individuals and groups from diverse populations. Ability to travel throughout the State of Texas and work some nights and week-ends including child watch. Skills in leading others and skills in managing and updating tracking systems.



Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable motor vehicle.


Initial Selection Criteria:
Child Protective Services Specialist III: Employed as a Child Protective Services Specialist for 36 months AND have received Child Protective Services Specialist Certification OR currently employed as a Child Protective Services Specialist III in Texas Department of Family and Protective Services • Child Protective Services Specialist IV: Four and one half years cumulative Child Protective Services Specialist experience AND have received Child Protective Services Advanced Specialist Certification OR currently employed as a Child Protective Services Specialist V in Texas Department of Family and Protective Services

This position may be filled at the level from a CPS Specialist III to CPS Specialist V and may be housed in
any office in Region 4 where office space is available.
