This position will be critical to assuring accurate data collection, submission to registries, and performance feedback for cardiovascular care within the Heart and Vascular department for all cardiovascular services performed. This role will focus on service to the customer, our patients, the family and the care providers. Performance will be monitored in a summary fashion across Heart and Vascular services, so communication and collaboration within the health system and peers is important. This role will serve as a liaison with the other system entities related to performance and data and will have a broad understanding of cardiovascular performance in each dimension of the balanced scorecard for the facility.


  • Responsible for the ACC and/or STS Registry data submissions and the collection and real-time feedback on all STEMI arrivals
  • Encourages and ensures data quality in systems that support the registries and program quality, such as the local hemodynamic system and/or electronic medical record system.
  • Ensure data quality abstraction from registry vendor systems, including but not limited to NCDR, ACTION, and DISCC.
  • Ensure proper training and performance of personnel charged with data collection and entry
  • Collect and report other critical measures that are not in current registries
  • Identify opportunities to streamline data entry and storage
  • Be the expert for registry reporting and data definitions
  • Support the design, targeting and monitor of cardiovascular performance measures
  • Review registry reports, scorecards or outcome measures and identify trends and improvement opportunities

    EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Required:
    • The individual must be a graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing, with a current license to Registered Nurse
    • Must be proficient in the use of keyboard and basic computer applications.
    • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft word, excel, power point, and graphics software are required.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in data abstracting, collecting, validation and data analysis
    • Competent in the use of database software preferred or must be competent by the end of probationary period.
    • Proven competence in the analysis, interpretation, explanation and presentation of performance data and trends; or must prove competence by the end of the probationary period.
    • Must be knowledgeable of medical terminology, anatomy and medical interventions; and must have three to five years of working clinical knowledge acquired from an acute care setting as a registered nurse or equivalent.
    • Must be able to access data and information using the electronic medical record and transfer into appropriate data registry depot.
  • Preferred:

    • Nursing health science or related field.
    • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements as they relate to the Performance Improvement standards and Sentinel Events, root cause analysis and failure modes and effects analysis.
    • Preferred: Data abstractor, Quality and/or Performance Improvement experience.
  • Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
