Job Title: Data Center Operations Manager
Location: Asheville, NC (Hybrid, Onsite 3x times per week, plus up to 25% US Travel per year)
Clearance Required: Public Trust, US Citizen
Position Description/Scope of Work:
The Operations Manager will have overall technical delivery responsibility for both IT operational and projects. These activities include but are not limited to contractor team performance, planning and prioritization, status and reporting, risk management, issue resolution, budget, and resource allocation.
This role requires being onsite in Asheville, NC at least 3x times per week, plus travel to other US locations up to 25% per year. Remote work is allowable part time. The ideal candidate will have the schedule flexibility to modify their onsite support to fit the customers’ need.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Primary Point of Contact to government leadership for the ongoing operations and maintenance of the data center, and ongoing projects
- Demonstrate and implement Project Management best practices in an IT Enterprise environment that reduce risks and improve service delivery
- Work with government leadership to ensure proactive communications, timely statuses, resolve challenges for the technical team, set prioritization, and manage scope creep
- Support activities to implement and mature ITSM/ITIL processes that improve services, resolution times, and Customer Experience
- Manage, mentor and lead a complex IT Enterprise with multiple work streams, components, locations, and customers
- Manage and oversee project efforts that include hardware/software upgrades, infrastructure improvements/maintenance, Cloud Migration activities, and more
- Conduct continuous risk assessments and develop measures to reduce risk in program execution
- Demonstrate technical management capabilities, budgeting, and resource allocation, including management of subcontractor personnel
- Oversee, implement and ensure configuration management planning including configuration identification, change control, configuration status accounting, configuration audits, and configuration documentation
- Ensure timely communications across the program that include daily oral and written statuses, agenda development, facilitating meetings, distributing meeting minutes, creating reports, briefing statues, tracking action items to completion
- Accountable for technical and performance success, takes a proactive independent approach to mitigate issues, ensure performance goals are met, and meet contract and corporate objectives
- Manage and mentor personnel to include timesheets, career development, performance reviews, training, and other corporate processes
- Ensure program and project performance targets such as SLA’s and other targets are met or exceeded; identify root cause and corrective action plans when deficient
- Develop strong relationships with customers, leadership, and staff to foster program maturity and ensure high satisfaction
- Support business development and proposal activities, as requested
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of specific experience in a Data Center Operations Leadership role (On Prem and/or Cloud), working in a Federal Government environment
- 5+ years of experience managing team sizes of 25+ IT Professionals
- Prior experience implementing ITSM/ITIL best practices that drive results in process improvements and operational maturity
- Prior experience managing procurement budgets for hardware/software procurements
- Must understand technical IT Infrastructure and Network components such as Hardware’s, Software’s, configurations, and processes
- Demonstrated Project Management experience in an IT Enterprise environment that includes scheduling, performance, budgeting, reporting, risks, issue resolution, resource allocation, and briefing to teams and leadership
- Prior experience managing geographically dispersed teams; ability to handle all staffing matters from recruiting, requirements development, training, career development, and escalations
- Ability to create complex and professional looking data reports using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
- Strong and effective written and verbal communications skills
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills
Required Certification(s):
- An active PMI Project Management Professional (PMP®) or PMI Program Management Professional (PgMP®) Certification
Desired Certification(s):
- Customer Experience training or certification
- ITIL v3 or higher
- CISSP certification
- SAFe Agile training or certification
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management or Engineering, or other comparable degree
