Duties

  • Participates in DOD/DA/DAF State inspections, inquiries, and investigations to perform review, analysis, evaluation, staffing and coordination.
  • Conducts investigations of allegations made and problems or deficiencies identified during the course of inspecting State or unit operations relating to areas assigned.
  • Develops/interprets policies and published guidance throughout the State and to the IG.
  • Prepares and reviews periodic and recurring IG reports and analyses of deficiency trends for the State and presents these trends to the IG and state leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • The employee will be required to take a drug test.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Employee must be a citizen of the United States by birth or naturalization.
  • Employee must have moral attributes and personal traits that demonstrate adherence to Army and Air Force Values, and the Army Civilian Corps Creed.
  • Employee must have no record of criminal punishment except for minor offenses or derogatory information contained in IG records as screened by the USAIGA and SAF-IG.
  • Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
  • Position requires travel to support National Guard units statewide. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: For positions for which individual occupational requirements do not specify otherwise, general experience is 3 years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4, that demonstrates the ability to:
  • Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions;
  • Plan and organize work; and
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.



SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.

Additional information

Employee will be required to attend and successfully complete the Headquarters, Department of the Army Inspector General Course and the Secretary of the Air Force Inspector General Inspector General Training Course for Investigations and successfully complete the Department of the Army Inspector General Refresher training as required by The Inspector General of the Army, and the Air Force Worldwide Training Conferences as required for refresher training.

Employee will be required to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance. A minimum of an interim secret security clearance is required before an individual can perform any IG functions or have access to IG records. Inspector general positions are designated as noncritical sensitive. Positions requiring a higher clearance level must be designated as such in accordance with DOD 5200.2-R and validated by the Office of Personnel Management's Position Designation Tool.

Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) and the Air Force Complaints Resolution (ACTS) databases to screen for adverse information, substantiated allegations, and ongoing IG investigations. A social security number (SSN) is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority.
