General express is looking for a Diesel Mechanic in Elwood IL. We have an immediate opening for an experienced Diesel Mechanic in Elwood IL.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the competencies and or ability required.

We are looking for a Diesel Mechanic to join our team! You will be responsible for repairing Class A tractors and supporting terminal operations.

Essential Job Functions:

• Follow safety and best practices and follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
• Demonstrate proficiency in the inspection, repair and diagnosis of Class A tractors.
• Must be FHWA and brake inspector certified (per DOT requirements)
• Perform all levels of PM services on truck and trailing equipment as well as DOT inspections.
• Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Ensure compliance with DOT standards and properly document work completed.
• Diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, wiring diagrams, and pressure gauges.
• Maintain inventory of and care for company tools
• Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
• Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components etc.
• Support terminal yard operations and other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2-5 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Vocational / technical or certification preferred.
• Freightliner Experience preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
• Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices
• Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with excellent communication skills
• Excellent communication skills- Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written, and can read and understand English.
• Clean MVR and able to operate company equipment.
• Basic computer skills to enter data into maintenance software system is required.
• Must have own tools sufficient to do any job that is required.
