Job Title: Director of Finance - Nonprofit
We are currently seeking a highly qualified Director of Finance to lead our internal team and support our finance and business planning efforts. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director and be responsible for overseeing our day-to-day financial management, leading the annual audit process, and coordinating the annual budgeting and planning process. Additionally, the Director of Finance will manage our organizational cash flow and forecasting efforts, ensuring the consistent application of a compliant allocation model that supports the proper financial spend down of all grant contracts.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day financial management of the organization
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process and assess changes necessary
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
- Ensure the consistent application of a compliant allocation model that supports the proper financial spend down of all grant contracts
- Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices
- Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the board of directors
- Attend finance and audit committee and/or board meetings
- Step in as the “Acting Executive Director” with decision-making authority in the event of the ED’s unforeseen and/or extended absence
- Manage stressful situations with empathy and calm
Requirements:
- At least six years of nonprofit fund accounting experience at the Director level, with intimate knowledge of Federal grant regulations and compliance
- Expertise in fund accounting and allocation model management
- Experience with OIG audits, the Universal Guidelines, OMB Circulars, and the Greenbook
- Ability to translate financial concepts to programmatic and fundraising colleagues
- Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors
- A successful track record in setting priorities and keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
- Personal qualities of integrity and credibility
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
