Job Description


Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the general accounting operations of the hotel. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies.

Essential Job Functions
  • Analyzes information, forecasts sales against expenses and creates annual budget plans
  • Compiles information, analyzes and monitors actual sales against projected sales
  • Analyzes differences between actual budget wages and forecasted wages for more efficient budget planning
  • Creates the annual operating budget for the property
  • Provides analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities for hotel managers
  • Implements a system of appropriate controls to manage business risks
  • Ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability
  • Attends meetings and communicates with the owners, understanding the priorities and strategic focus
  • Advises the GM and executive committee on existing and evolving operating/financial issues
  • Manages property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements
  • Facilitates meetings to review information with management team
  • Ensures Profits and Losses are documented accurately
  • Monitors all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected and/or accrued
  • Submits reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines
  • Develops and supports achievement of performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc.
  • Improves profit growth in operating departments
  • Reviews audit issues to ensure accuracy
  • Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc
  • Reconciles balance sheet to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation in accordance with SOPs
  • Ensures the accuracy of the P&L
  • Ensures compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies provided by the corporate office
  • Ensures team members are cross-trained to support successful daily operations
  • Ensures property policies are administered fairly and consistently
  • Ensures proper training, accountability and development of team members
  • Oversees internal, external and regulatory audit processes
  • Analyzes financial data and market trends
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan which is aligned with the company’s and brand’s strategic direction
  • Provides ongoing analytical support by monitoring the operating department’s actual and projected sales
  • Produces accurate forecasts that enable operations to react to changes in the business
  • Other duties as assigned

The budgeted salary range for this position is $114,546 to $140,909. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all of our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.


Qualifications
  • B.S Degree in accounting or finance required
  • Must have extensive knowledge of all aspects of hotel accounting
  • 5 or more years of hotel finance experience
  • 5 years or more of supervisory experience
  • Extensive knowledge with hotel property management software, point of sale systems, electronic time clock systems, spreadsheet software and other hotel applications
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience in financial modeling

Supervision Given and Received

Given: Exercises direct supervision over hotel accounting staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, frequent and detailed review of work, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Received: Works under limited supervision of Hotel General Manager and Aspen Hospitality Finance Department. Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing strategical methods to attain them. Can formulate policies but does not necessarily have final authority for approval. Review of work is not detailed and emphasizes accomplishment of broad work objectives, rather than specific assignments.

  • Ability to stand, type and sit at desk/computer for most of the work shift executing repetitive movements
  • No adverse or hazardous conditions
  • Not required, but preferred to be able to occasionally lift, push or pull 25 lbs. individually or with assistance
