Director of Food Services Job at Scituate Public Schools
Overview: Plan, organize, control and direct food service operations and activities including the preparation cooking, baking, serving, distribution, and selling of food items to meet student needs. Coordinate personnel, communications, and record keeping functions to meet food service needs and to maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines, regulations, and reporting requirements.Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school kitchens and cafeterias. Provide leadership, training, and evaluation of the food service staffDuties & Responsibilities: Interview, recommend, and evaluate food service staffEstablish work performance standards for staff supervisorsCreate, implement and monitor staff work schedulesPlan and supervise in-service training, and keep personnel informed or required health and safety regulationsPrepare age appropriate menus based on sound nutrition and outlining nutrient/calorie informationDevelop specifications and standards of quality for the purchasing of food, supplies, and equipmentDevelop procedures for properly receiving food and supplies and for the adequate storage and distribution of sameMaintain accurate accounting records for proper management of money, labor, food, supplies, and other costsPrepare monthly reports of food service receipts and expenditures and ensure daily deposit of all cash receipts in compliance with town and school policiesPrepare and ensure the proper filing of claims for reimbursement and other required federal and state reportsInstruct personnel in the proper use and care of equipment and ensure proper care and sanitation of equipment and facilitiesEstablish and maintain good rapport with students, teaching staff, school administrators, and the general publicEnsure compliance with revised regulatory requirements associated with the federal Nutrition Standards in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs (7 CFR 210 and 220) as to align them with Dietary Guidelines for Americans as advanced by the USDA.Ensure compliance with the Nutrition Standards for Competitive Foods and Beverages in Public Schools - MA DPH Regulation (105 CMR 225)Actively participate in the districts School Wellness Advisory CouncilMarket the food service program to the community at large in an effort to increase student and faculty sales and transparently Communicate nutritional quality of food servicedCoordinate centralized procurement of all food service related purchases for all kitchens and ensure payment of invoicesAttend local area monthly food service director meetings Submit monthly claims for state and federal reimbursements for all schoolsPerform any other reasonable duty as determined by the Superintendent and/or her designeeQualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university preferably with a concentration in food service preferredPrior experience in the preparation and serving of meals in a school or institutional settingPrior supervisory and/or management oversight of cafeteria personnel in a school or institutional settingExcellent verbal and written communication skillsRegistered Dietitian Alternatives to the above qualifications may be appropriate and/or acceptable
