Job Title: Director of Nursing

Supervises: Community RN and Health Coordinator(s)

SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of Community Living individuals served by Life Unlimited. The Director of Nursing is also responsible for providing individualized heath related counseling, education and information.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for ensuring the health of all individuals.
- Ensure all services are provided according to best practice with the highest levels of standards and quality.
- Works with Administration, Quality Assurance Specialist and VP of Community Living in responding to identified Health Concerns.
- Ensure the health program policies and procedures are current and consistent with best practice and highest ethical standards and meet all regulatory and accrediting body requirements and standards.
- Works with local pharmacies to coordinate vaccination clinics for individuals receiving Life Unlimited Inc. services.
- Provide 24-hour on-call support to Program Managers to address individual medical needs and emergencies.
- Participate in intake meetings for all individuals seeking services through the community living program to ensure appropriate health services can be provided. Provide initial nursing reviews of all individuals during the intake process.
- Ensure required nursing hours, as determined by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), are met on a monthly basis for all individuals supported through Community Living.
- Work to trend and seek resolution to medication errors, reportable events, and other indicators of quality service delivery and looks for ways to improve the program.
- Reviews all QERN reported APTS that pertain to health and safety needs for individuals supported and ensures timely resolution.
- Responsible for timely and ongoing communication.
- Serves as the coordinator of the Health Teams and holds Health Team meetings according to agency policy.
- Provides update(s) to agency and program leadership by participating in weekly, monthly and/or quarterly meetings.
- Participates in program and house meetings as necessary to address corrective actions needed to address issues identified during health QA assessment(s) and/or Service Monitoring.
- Maintains open and consistent communication with individuals, families/guardians, other health-care providers and regulatory oversight agencies (DMH, DHSS, etc.).
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with Quality Assurance RN’s at the Kansas City Regional Office of the Department of Mental Health to implement and maintain statewide health and safety initiatives.
- The ability to effectively and efficiently use computers or mobile devices to input, access, modify, or output information. This includes the ability to quickly access, store and retrieve data.
- Responsible for supervision and training of agency personnel.
- Attend training provided by the Department of Mental Health, DDD on statewide administration of best practices and expectations of the quality health care system.
- Provide direct supervision to Community RN, Health Coordinators, and in-direct supervision of program personnel that provide medical assistance to the individuals receiving Community Living services.
- Works with Human Resources to ensure correct hiring processes and personnel policies are followed.
- Works with Health Team to ensure staff understand their roles, are held accountable for their objectives and obligations, and meet training requirements.
- Conducts annual performance reviews for RNs, Health Coordinators, and Health Team Administrative Assistant.
- Ensure all employees are trained to administer medications in accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines set forth in the Level 1 Medication Adminstration training program.
- Is a certified instructor in Level 1 Medication Aide program, and will step in as a trainer for both the Initial LIMA class as well as the 2 year update class trainer and serve as the backup trainer if needed.
- Monitors and tracks employee’s medication errors and reports to management recommendations for discipline following any/all medication errors on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Ensure employees who work with individuals who require additional delegated health related interventions are adequately trained and monitored according to the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel guidelines and Nursing Practices Act Chapter 335 RSMo.
- Provide health related training when needed; such as prevention of communicable diseases, seizure disorders and interventions, and diabetes.
- Conducts monthly or as needed trainings for Team supervisors/Program Managers for all health related functions pertaining to but not limited to: Management of the MAR, Processing physician consults, DMH required medical visits and diet management.

Physical Expectations
This position requires extended periods of sitting with some periods of walking and standing. It may also require lifting, bending, kneeling, and/or stooping and climbing stairs. This individual will need to drive their vehicle to transport prospective clients and others to our various locations. There may be extended periods of using a computer.
Working Conditions
This position operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position may also be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in nursing field preferred.
- Must maintain an active nursing license in good standing issued by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
- Must have knowledge of the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Must have experience in a community nursing program.
- Must have/acquire Level 1 Medication Adminstration trainer certification through Department of Health and Senior Services and/or DMH
- Must obtain a Class E driver’s license during new hire orientation– must carry minimum coverage applicable by law for auto insurance
- Must Receive Seasonal Flu Vaccination
- Must Receive Covid-19 Vaccination
