What You Will Do:

Online Directors are full-time 12-month administrative position with a faculty appointment on the professional practice track working in the Online and Adult Education (OAE) unit of the Provost’s Office. They serve primarily as leader administrators focused on the quality of online programming across the institution. Online Directors are expert teachers and leaders that support programs strategically, as well as operationally to care take the online faculty and student experience. They collaborate with programs, faculty, and staff across the university to ensure best practices are implemented across online programs to create an exceptional teaching and learning environment focused on student success.
Essential Responsibilities:

Since the nature of online programming continues to evolve at NLU and beyond, the day-to-day responsibilities of Online Directors evolves as the needs of their programs do, but their primary duties are to:
  • Work closely with college leadership teams to develop priorities, goals, and operational plans for online programs, which may include, but are not limited to matters related to marketing; admissions and enrollment; course scheduling and delivery; faculty staffing, development and coaching; and student support.
  • Oversee elements of curriculum and assessment tied to online programs, including working with College leadership teams to provide support for the approval of programs, as applicable.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program improvement by collaborating with colleges to identify needs and quality criteria for excellence in online teaching and learning.
  • Serve as primary liaison by and between colleges, the Online and Adult Education (OAE) unit, Learning and Information Technology Services (LITS), Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE), and other University partners in the delivery of high quality online programs.
  • Act as a liaison for faculty working with the Learning Experience Design (LxD) team on online course design.
  • Provide support for digital learning technologies, which may include D2L, Zoom, Atlas, Sophie, GoReact and other University supported technology platforms, and provide leadership in the research of, selection, recommendation and implementation of digital learning technologies (e.g., courseware, third party teaching and learning tools, adaptive technology, etc.
  • Provide support for faculty professional development and faculty scholarship related to online teaching and learning.
  • Engage in research and work collaboratively with external stakeholders to provide thought leadership in online and education technology.
  • Serve as faculty in an NLU program, contributing to teaching, program support and other responsibilities, as appropriate.
  • Support accountability reporting related to online education, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree is required in a discipline that aligns to a program offering at NLU.
  • At least 5 years of online teaching, learning, and leadership experience with more than 10 as preferred.
  • Quality Matters certification or another industry-recognized online teaching certificate or program, preferred.
