Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director for Diversity and Inclusion, this position has the responsibility of the administration for diversity and inclusion initiatives that target middle and high school students and/or students and/or undergraduate students from underrepresented groups in health and science. This includes but is not limited to program management, paraprofessional supervision, performance evaluation, budget management, grant compliance, program design, and evaluation associated with the operation of a comprehensive engagement program for RFUMS community and funding partners. This position will also assist the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with fulfilling the community engagement goals by promoting and strengthening relationships with community partners to construct reciprocal efforts that advance both educational and civic goals for students, faculty, and staff from underrepresented groups.

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DDEI) leads the efforts in the development and implementation of a proactive diversity, equity, inclusion and community engagement vision that supports the mission and vision of Rosalind Franklin University. The DDEI provides supportive measures that enhance the university’s learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed by promoting a culture of inclusion where individuals from all racial and ethnic identities, ages, religions, nationalities, educational background, social and economic status, sexual orientations, gender identities/expressions, and physical and mental abilities can thrive and learn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Create and Manage Pipeline Programs:

  • Administer the INSPIRE, and Science Saturdays programs by working directly with faculty program directors for these programs. Adhere to grant/funder requirements. Assess services, activities, objectives, and student learning outcomes that can serve as a resource for other areas within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI).
  • Serve as the liaison for all pre-college and college pipeline programs on the campus of Rosalind Franklin University to include the Pre-Matriculation Program (PMP).
  • Work with Institutional Advancement to write grant proposal and annual report(s). Create and/or maintain program manual/handbook each year thereafter.
  • Manage the program budget(s) in compliance with grant requirements and all university policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental dialogues through meetings and regular communication among departments, deans, faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders regarding pipeline students. Work with key stakeholders to determine eligibility of participants.
  • Provide additional support for large-scale program events (Orientation, Day of Service, Admitted Student Visit Day, Commencement, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Student Accessibility Services, Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar to create/manage participant identification, selection, and support.
  • Build new diverse student pipeline initiatives for underrepresented students (elementary, middle, high school) and undergraduate students that fulfill the diversity mission of the school and to meet program specific accreditation standards. This also includes applying for grants and writing grant proposals the secure independent funding for pipeline work and diversity initiatives to take the programs to scale.
  • In partnership with admission, develop a robust outreach campaigns to enhance pathways for students underrepresented in health and science within an end goal of increasing application to future and/or current institutions such as RFU.

Community Engagement:

  • Develop and/or maintain strategic partnerships and relationships among community and national organizations that serve our targeted audience.
  • Develop the implementation of community outreach programming to actively engage in external partner, organizations, and individuals in order to highlight opportunities to engage with University programs and students.

General:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate student employees, as needed. Collaborate with admission staff to ensure alignment with pipeline/pathway recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Provide regular updates to Executive Director for D&I regarding community partner needs, trends, and pipeline participants’ experience.
  • Prepares reports for the Vice President, Executive Director for D & I and key stakeholders on enrollment, student evaluation results, and gains on services/support. Recommend program and services to supervisor as appropriate based on these results and best practice(s). Assist supervisor with disseminating campus-wide data on pipeline initiative success rates and funding sources for this specific population.
  • Assisting in other programming and/or support initiatives related to the ODI, Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and/or the University's mission.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or related field
  • Four years’ experience working with underrepresented populations and/or community/national organizations focused on serving underrepresented populations.
  • Experience and success in cultivating and sustaining partnerships with organizations in the nonprofit, government, and private/for-profit sectors.
  • Must have an understanding of the challenges and needs of diverse students.
  • Must possess analytical and program planning skills and experience in program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively addressing issues of diversity and inclusion and in building community among different groups in university and community settings

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to allow for effective and positive communication with management across all operational areas of the University.
  • Knowledge of higher education and enrollment management and/or admission concerns, policies and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively across the University – including with students, faculty, and staff– and with the broader community, including community and national organizations towards creating meaningful and sustainable partnerships
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with a high degree of attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of issues in higher education.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with faculty, committees, and administration.
  • Three years of experience in education related programs for underserved/underrepresented student programs (preferably pipeline programs).
  • Comprehensive computer skills including Internet, social media, Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and constituent databases.
  • Strong leadership, communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, budgeting, computer and reporting skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity.
  • Ability to represent ODI in key internal and external meetings, including community meetings and convening, as assigned.
  • Ability to build relationships between ODI and various external agencies, organizations, and institutions with whom the Office may collaborate.
  • Ability to provide professional development and advising to students and to facilitate meetings and pipeline driven workshops for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently; ability to meet deadlines; maintain confidentiality, and problem solving.
  • Strong research, verbal and written communication and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to relate to and engage community partners.

Typical physical demands and working conditions

  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
