District Literacy Coordinator Job at Sheridan School District No. 2
- Collaborate with school/district leaders and other stakeholders in planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive district-wide literacy plan
- Collaborate with Executive Director of Assessments to ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systemic basis, and that findings are used to make literacy programming more effective
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community groups
- Organize and deliver highly effective building and district-level professional development for PK-12 literacy
- Provide direct support to school leaders, instructional staff including teachers, paraprofessionals, and ISAs. This support may include demonstration and modeling of a variety of effective research-based practices and utilizing the full coaching model of support
- Direct the planning and development of curriculum, instruction improvement, and special projects for PK-12 literacy
- Identify successful literacy intervention and remediation programs to increase student achievement
- Assist schools with implementation of successful program practices
- Provide input and support to the Chief Academic Officer regarding prioritization of professional development needs, evaluation of literacy programs, and reviews of current research
- Provide input and support to the Director of Special Education to maintain articulation and alignment of programs for students receiving special education support with District curriculum documents
- Provide input and support to the Director of Culture and Equity to maintain articulation and alignment of programs for English learners with District curriculum documents
- Provide input to support the creation of Advanced Learning Plans for gifted and talented students
- Ensure alignment of District curriculum documents with core curriculum materials
- Demonstrate and utilize a variety of effective instructional strategies, practices, and assessment
- Coordinate, lead, and implement instructional materials including consumables for PK-12 literacy
- Provide input and support to Executive Director of Assessment to create and refine district literacy assessments for PK-12th grades
- Implement, monitor, and adjust literacy programming based on data to support the district strategic plan and goals as they relate to literacy PK-12
- Seek funding sources to support literacy plan and goals
- Oversee grant compliance for our CLSD grant including creating reports
- Coordinate and facilitate family engagement events specific to literacy for PK-12
- Provide input and next steps to district and school leadership based on data and research
- Prepare budget and cost estimates on documented program needs
- Develop training options to ensure optimum implementation of literacy plan
- Perform responsibilities in a timely, ethical, and professional manner
- Collaborate with building leaders on the development of their UIPs where it relates to literacy

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required: - Highly qualified with M.A. in Education, Colorado teaching license
- Minimum 5 years instructional experience
- Experience in providing high quality professional development
- Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other professional staff
- Minimum 3 years administration experience
- Strong knowledge of READ Act requirements
- Strong and demonstrated knowledge of elementary and secondary literacy
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

POSITION SUMMARY: The Pk-12 Literacy Coordinator serves as part of the District Instructional Leadership team, whose primary responsibilities are to support schools and lead the District’s vision for teaching and learning. The Literacy Coordinator performs a variety of tasks in overseeing the successful creation and implementation of the Comprehensive Local Literacy Plan. This incudes providing district-wide leadership in PK-12 literacy curriculum, instruction, and intervention, including pre- and foundational reading and language development skills, intermediate reading strategies, and disciplinary literacy across content for students in PK-12. Additionally, the District Literacy Coordinator will partner with internal and external stakeholders to engage families of children aged birth to 5, to support oral language development activities and prepare them for a successful school start. The District Literacy Coordinator also partners with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that educators utilize culturally and linguistically responsive instructional methods that meet, accelerate, and enrich learning for all students, including those who are English learners, advanced readers, and those students receiving Special Education services. In addition, the PK-12 Literacy Coordinator provides input and next steps to District and school leadership based on data and research.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SALARY:
Salary range for this position is $86,000- $121,000 and is based upon previous related experience.
BENEFITS:
Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by state statute to contribute 11% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The District contributes 21%.
