Job Title: Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate (Night Shift) (Chiefland)

Shift Hours:

  • Saturday 12a-12p
  • Sunday 12a-12p
  • Monday 12a-8a
  • Friday 12a-18a

Job Description: Being a Superhero Without the Cape! Assisting survivors of domestic and sexual violence in a residential setting. As an advocate you provide support, counseling, and empowerment-based advocacy. This is an entry level position, and we provide the certifications and trainings for your role as an advocate.

A Little About Us: Another Way, Inc. is a non-profit seven county domestic violence and rape crisis center in North Florida. We provide counseling, support groups, advocacy, accompaniment, safety planning, shelter, 24-hour helpline for support, attorneys for injunctions for protection, as well as many other supportive services. The organization has been operating for 33 years and continues to grow and empower survivors of domestic and sexual violence. About the Role: You will help represent the company by providing empowerment-based services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

What You Will Do:

· Provide supportive services to the individuals in shelter or on the helpline. For example: counseling individuals or in a group setting.

· Assist survivors by empowering them to create and set goals that they will work towards meeting and maintaining.

· Help survivors understand and learn the healthy boundaries within relationships.

· Handle crisis situations in a calm and consistent manner as well as multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

· Cleaning and organization within the facility.

· Complete data entry into the system and document services.

· Assist in providing resources to clients and helping them get connected.

· Advocate for the survivors in services.

· Some accompaniments may be required for court or other appointments.

· Complete all trainings that are required to maintain certifications.

About You: The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

· Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and clear motor vehicle background check.

· Can pass a Level II Fingerprinting and Background Check through DCF.

· You work well within a team setting but can work effectively independently.

· Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

· Can be flexible in their work schedule.

· Have basic computer skills; data entry skills are a plus.

· Good at problem solving, remaining calm and making sound decisions when under pressure. Thrive in fast-paced environments.

· Great listening and communication skills. Also, the ability to be empathetic and non-judgmental.

· Be a great multi-tasker

· Bonus points if you are bi-lingual.
