Position Summary
Under the direction of the Pharmacist in Charge, the Drug Room Supervisor performs activities pertaining to the Drug Room, including drug purchase, distribution, and control. Performs all non-professional (administrative) aspects of the department and is accountable for clerical duties that do not require professional judgment. In addition to the above, the Drug Room Supervisor is responsible for keeping the Drug Room fiscally sound. This includes keeping all finances for the department within the Board approved budget and working with administration to resolve any problems.

Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, (“The Unity Bill”) this position is considered a “Safety-sensitive position. “Safety-sensitive” is defined to include “any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.” Employees working in “safety-sensitive” roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to work independently, with no direction.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing and possess current LPN license in the State of Oklahoma.
- Knowledge of Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and State Board of Pharmacy Regulations.
- Knowledge of pharmacology in nursing.
Licensure/Certification
- Licensed as a LPN in the state of Oklahoma.
- BLS, ACLS and PALS Certified
- Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of hire.
Language Skills
- English is the primary language of the Hospital.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
- Ability to interpret reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, physicians, clients, customers, employees, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute ratio, percent, rate, as well as the ability to create and interpret graphs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Job Functions
Procures medications from a pharmacy wholesaler. Requisitions medications and drug room supplies with guidance from the Pharmacist in Charge.
Controls inventory stock levels, including Controlled Drug Substances. Maintains inventory within formulary considerations of controlled and non-controlled substances.
- Helps maintain orderly, clean environment in the department, including cleanliness of Drug Room stock and supplies.
- Fills medication carts/dispensers. Understands use, storage, and record keeping of controlled substances.
- Keeps records of adverse drug reactions and medication errors and reports to appropriate committees.
- Completes requisitions, maintains files for purchase orders, stock orders, requisitions, etc.
Fills floor stock requisitions for non-charge medications; receives, inspects, and verifies credit returns.
Removes or recommends removal of slow, unneeded or outdated medications from stock and prepares for return or disposal.
- Keeps inventory control. Checks expiration dates.
Assists other departments with drug calculations under the direction of the Pharmacist in Charge.
- Performs general clerical duties.
Assists Pharmacist in Charge with maintaining the hospital formulary on a regular basis.
Participates in Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee; Prepares reports for Quality Improvement Committee.
Performs monthly inspections of all areas within the hospital where medications are stored, dispensed, and administered.
- Provides written and verbal communications to hospital staff with updates and changes in medication supplies in conjunction with PIC.
Performs other associated duties as directed by the Pharmacist in Charge and Hospital Administration.
Additional Responsibilities
- Seek out external resources through conferences, workshops, etc. as necessary.
- Share professional knowledge with hospital staff, board members, and administrator.
- Comply with HIPAA regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to the hospital’s philosophy, mission, and policies and procedures.
- Support the hospital’s goals and objectives.
- Maintains a good attendance record and follows all hospital rules, policies and procedures.
- Maintains open and effective communications with patients and their nurses, physicians, peers, supervisors, and students. Establishes and maintains excellent interdepartmental and interpersonal relationships.
- Attends departmental meetings and in-services to stay current with the developments of the department and hospital.
- Observes that proper safety measures are enforced in the techniques used on patients receiving medications. Maintains high safety standards in the hospital.
