Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Position Summary
In this role, the environmental health & safety (EHS) coordinator is responsible for the implementation and update of the site’s EHS programs pertaining to production, research, and logistics operations, as well as the general office. This position will be the main point of contact for EHS and help to monitor procurement, use and disposal of chemicals, review procedures, ensure training is conducted and safety data sheets are kept current with frequent auditing to support the overall programs at the site level. This position will provide support for the primary site in Spokane, WA as well as off-site warehousing in the local area.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage employee safety training for scientists, engineers, and technicians, developing new training programs and related documentation as needed
  • Coordinate hazardous waste storage and disposal; ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations
  • Provides EH&S guidance to R&D engineering, facilities, and manufacturing to ensure compliance with all OSHA and EPA applicable standards, codes and laws related to health, safety and the environment
  • Maintains a learning management system (LMS) to address existing and new training modules in the lab and machine shop environments
  • Leads the requirements within the OSHA laboratory and hazardous communications standards, participating in PPE evaluations and selection of appropriate PPE
  • Maintains and updates the Emergency Action Plan and Fire Prevention Plan at the site
  • Participates in post-incident investigations, prepare reports identifying possible incident causes and hazards, present recommendations for solutions to these hazards in the future
  • Drives the chemical approval process, chemical inventory, and maintains and updates SDS in support of the chemical hygiene plan
  • Advise leadership team on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions
  • Conducts audits, briefings/meetings, as required
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders, management, regulators, and other external or third parties
  • Fosters opportunities to improve health and safety, program execution, management and employee expectations and overall value for the company and its employees
  • Support sustainability/corporate social responsibility efforts across the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Safety, Chemistry, Occupational Health or other related field, with 3-5 years of demonstrated work experience
  • Strong knowledge of working with hydrogen and other flammable chemicals is strongly desired
  • Background in laboratory safety, production environment, chemical hygiene plans and possess knowledge of current terminology and a broad understanding of local, State and Federal regulations (OSHA, RCRA, DOT, EPA)
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex mandatory regulations and their impact on the operations
  • Proven skill set with a variety of computer and software programs including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, and others.
  • Capability to present information effectively to diverse audiences and stakeholders while responding to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the leadership team
  • Ability to write reports and procedural manuals
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
Pay Rate:
$52,250.00 - $78,375.00
